What dispatcher does

The skill is a router. You describe the task, it matches that against an intent table and opens the matching specialist skill: config authoring, technical advisory, incident response, performance tuning, security hardening, or end-to-end lifecycle work. Requests that touch several areas at once go to the Workflow Orchestrator.

Six specialists sit behind it, and they all share the same core-7 MCP tool set: validate, lint, sdk, trace_request, inspect_cache, monitor_metrics, tail_logs. That is what static config validation, request tracing, cache inspection and log tailing run on.

You need the Dispatcher MCP for AMS with AEM_DEPLOYMENT_MODE=ams, or the AMS Dispatcher MCP SDK. Routing still works without them; the tools underneath it do not. Worth checking your environment before the first run.

What it helps with

  • route an Adobe Dispatcher request to the right specialist skill
  • review .any, vhost and rewrite configs before a release
  • triage a runtime incident or a cache anomaly
  • find where cache efficiency and latency are slipping
  • run a security audit and tighten response headers

Example prompts for the agent

  • look at my vhost and tell me what needs fixing
  • the cache stopped refreshing after the release, dig into it
  • I need the full cycle: design, implement, validate and ship the Dispatcher config

How to install dispatcher

1Skills CLI (Vercel)

npx skills add adobe/skills --skill dispatcher -a claude-code

2Manually: put the files in place

~/.claude/skills/dispatcher/SKILL.md

Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/dispatcher/

Questions about dispatcher

How do I install dispatcher in Claude?

Run npx skills add adobe/skills --skill dispatcher -a claude-code. The skill lands in ~/.claude/skills/dispatcher/SKILL.md.

What does dispatcher do?

It is the single entry point for the AEM 6.5 LTS Dispatcher skills. It reads the intent behind a request and passes the work to one of six specialist skills.

What does dispatcher need to run?

The Dispatcher MCP for AMS with AEM_DEPLOYMENT_MODE=ams, or the AMS Dispatcher MCP SDK, set to ams.

# AEM 6.5 LTS Dispatcher

Route user requests to the appropriate specialist skill based on intent.

## Intent Router

| User Intent | Skill | Path |
|---|---|---|
| Create, modify, review, or harden dispatcher config files (`.any`, vhost, rewrite, cache, filter) | Config Authoring | [config-authoring/SKILL.md](./config-authoring/SKILL.md) |
| Conceptual questions (`statfileslevel`, filter rules, URL decomposition, cache invalidation, rewrite behavior, security headers) | Technical Advisory | [technical-advisory/SKILL.md](./technical-advisory/SKILL.md) |
| Investigate runtime incidents, failures, or cache anomalies | Incident Response | [incident-response/SKILL.md](./incident-response/SKILL.md) |
| Optimize cache efficiency, latency, and throughput | Performance Tuning | [performance-tuning/SKILL.md](./performance-tuning/SKILL.md) |
| Security audit, threat model, exposure control, header hardening | Security Hardening | [security-hardening/SKILL.md](./security-hardening/SKILL.md) |
| End-to-end lifecycle (design → implement → validate → release → incident) or requests spanning multiple concerns | Workflow Orchestrator | [workflow-orchestrator/SKILL.md](./workflow-orchestrator/SKILL.md) |

## How to Use

1. Match the user's request to one row in the Intent Router table above.
2. Read the linked SKILL.md for that specialist skill.
3. Follow the workflow, references, and output contract defined in that skill.
4. For broad or ambiguous requests that span multiple concerns, use the **Workflow Orchestrator** which coordinates across all specialist skills.

## MCP Tool Contract

All specialist skills share the same core-7 MCP tool set:

- `validate` — static config validation
- `lint` — deep/order-aware linting
- `sdk` — SDK check-files and diff-baseline
- `trace_request` — trace a request through dispatcher
- `inspect_cache` — inspect cache state
- `monitor_metrics` — runtime metrics
- `tail_logs` — log tailing
