core-nfc — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Configures Apple CoreNFC in iOS projects for scanning, writing NDEF payloads, and managing native ISO or MIFARE tag sessions.
npx skills add dpearson2699/swift-ios-skills --skill core-nfc -a claude-codeWhat core-nfc does
This skill equips your coding agent with setup steps and code patterns for Apple CoreNFC framework. It guides the creation of NFCNDEFReaderSession instances to extract text or URI payloads from tags, as well as handling session delegate callbacks. When lower-level communication is required, it provides patterns for NFCTagReaderSession targeting ISO 7816, ISO 15693, FeliCa, and MIFARE technologies.
Xcode configuration rules are bundled directly into the instructions. The skill insists on setting NFCReaderUsageDescription in Info.plist, selecting the modern TAG value in reader session format entitlements, and configuring specific application identifiers for ISO 7816. Real devices require an iPhone 7 or newer. Keep in mind that native tag sessions in this setup cannot be used for payment-related AIDs.
What it helps with
- read NDEF payloads using NFCNDEFReaderSession
- write URI and text records to writable NFC tags
- configure NFC entitlements and Info.plist entries in Xcode
- establish low-level tag sessions for ISO 15693, FeliCa, or MIFARE
Example prompts for the agent
- Set up an NFCNDEFReaderSession to read URLs from tags
- Write an NDEF text payload to a tag after verifying its readWrite status
- Add the required Info.plist strings and entitlements for ISO 7816 tags

Questions about core-nfc
How do I install core-nfc in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add dpearson2699/swift-ios-skills --skill core-nfc -a claude-code. The command downloads and registers the skill in your Claude Code setup.
What does the core-nfc skill do?
It provides guidance on scanning, connecting, and writing to NFC tags via Apple CoreNFC, covering session lifecycles and Xcode project settings.
Can core-nfc be used for payment processing?
No. Apple restricts these session types, and tag reader sessions cannot interact with payment-related application identifiers.
