connect-chatcut-desktop — Codex skill: get ChatCut Desktop running
Walks the agent through installing, opening or repairing ChatCut Desktop when the chatcut_desktop tools are missing. Instructions only, no installer.
npx skills add openai/plugins --skill connect-chatcut-desktop -a codexWhat connect-chatcut-desktop does
The skill gives the agent a fixed sequence: work out the OS and architecture, pull the official artifact into a temp folder, then unpack it and place ChatCut.app under /Applications on macOS, or run the installer on Windows. Once the app starts, it registers chatcut_desktop on its own and pushes its editing skills into Codex.
Downloads come from official addresses only: https://api.chatcut.io/desktop/download/macos for Apple Silicon, https://api.chatcut.io/desktop/download/macos-x64 for Intel, https://api.chatcut.io/desktop/download/windows for Windows x64. ChatCut Desktop runs on macOS 13 or newer and on Windows x64. Linux is not supported. Mirrors and the older chatcut@chatcut-inc plugin are off the table.
When the host cannot download, mount, extract or launch the installer, the skill stops and hands the user the matching official link so they can finish through the normal system flow. Credentials stay with the user, and nothing gets appended to config.toml. Codex picks up MCP tools and skills when a task begins, so a new task is needed after Desktop connects.
What it helps with
- install ChatCut Desktop when the
chatcut_desktoptools never answer - repair an app that is installed but refuses to open
- pick the right build for Apple Silicon, Intel or Windows x64
- work through a macOS signing or quarantine failure
- hand the user a download link when automation is blocked
Example prompts for the agent
- The
chatcut_desktoptools are missing — install and open ChatCut Desktop - ChatCut Desktop is installed but won't launch, check signing and quarantine
- Download the official ChatCut Desktop build for my machine and start it
