cli-resilience — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install

A skill that hands the agent the OmniRoute CLI commands for breaker state, cooldowns and quota checks, so a stuck provider can be reset from the terminal.

What cli-resilience does

The skill gives the agent a map of OmniRoute's own CLI, so it stops guessing which subcommand shows breaker state, connection cooldowns, model lockouts or quota numbers. Two groups are covered, resilience and quota, each with its flags and an example call.

resilience status and breakers report what is tripped; cooldowns and lockouts narrow the view with --provider, --connection-id and --model. resilience reset clears one provider, connection or model, while --all-cooldowns with --yes wipes every cooldown without a confirmation prompt. resilience set takes --threshold, --reset-timeout and --base-cooldown in milliseconds. For quotas, quota status prints gateway, pool and circuit state, and quota preview runs an allocation check through --api-key-id, --pool-id and --tokens before any upstream call.

None of it works without the CLI, so the instructions open with npm install -g omniroute or npx omniroute, then omniroute --version. One caveat worth knowing: the skill file is generated and manual edits get overwritten, so keeping your own thresholds on the command line beats editing the file. quota ensure <json> wants a JSON object as its argument.

What it helps with

  • see which provider is stuck in backoff
  • clear a cooldown on one connection
  • check whether a request fits the quota before sending it
  • dump quota state as JSON for a script
  • create or update a quota pool from a JSON object

Example prompts for the agent

  • Show me what is tripped right now: `omniroute resilience breakers`
  • Clear every cooldown without asking: `omniroute resilience reset --all-cooldowns --yes`
  • Preview the allocation for `--tokens <n>` before I send the request: `omniroute quota preview`

Questions about cli-resilience

How do I install cli-resilience in Claude Code?

Run npx skills add cheaper-inference/OmniRoute --skill cli-resilience -a claude-code. The skill lands at ~/.claude/skills/cli-resilience/SKILL.md.

What does cli-resilience do?

It tells the agent which OmniRoute subcommands inspect breakers, cooldowns, lockouts and quotas, and which ones reset a stuck provider or change resilience thresholds.

Do I need OmniRoute installed first?

Yes. Install it with npm install -g omniroute or run npx omniroute, then confirm with omniroute --version.
