What cli-anything-audacity does

This skill gives the agent a command-line front end for Audacity. Nine command groups cover a session end to end: project, track, clip, effect, selection, label, media, export, session. Commands change project state, so work carries over between calls.

Undo and redo hold up to 50 steps, and the project saves as JSON. Run the tool with no subcommand and you land in a REPL with tab completion and history. Add --json for machine-readable output — that is the mode an agent should use. Check the return code (0 means success), read stderr when it fails, and confirm the rendered file exists afterwards.

The CLI is a separate install: pip install cli-anything-audacity. It needs Python 3.10+ and Audacity on the machine. No Audacity, no working wrapper, so check that before you add the skill.

What it helps with

  • build one project from several tracks and render a single file
  • split a clip at a timestamp and trim both ends
  • confirm every referenced audio file still exists before rendering
  • undo a bad effect setting without leaving the terminal
  • hand the project JSON to an agent so it can read tracks and labels

Example prompts for the agent

  • Create project.json, add a track and import voice.wav into it
  • Add an effect to the track, change the parameter, then render the project
  • Show session status and undo the last step if the render failed

```bash
pip install cli-anything-audacity
```

**Prerequisites:**
- Python 3.10+

## State Management

The CLI maintains session state with:

- **Undo/Redo**: Up to 50 levels of history
- **Project persistence**: Save/load project state as JSON
- **Session tracking**: Track modifications and changes

## Output Formats

All commands support dual output modes:

- **Human-readable** (default): Tables, colors, formatted text
- **Machine-readable** (`--json` flag): Structured JSON for agent consumption

```bash
# Human output
cli-anything-audacity project info -p project.json
# JSON output for agents
cli-anything-audacity --json project info -p project.json
```

## For AI Agents

When using this CLI programmatically:

1. **Always use `--json` flag** for parseable output
2. **Check return codes** - 0 for success, non-zero for errors
3. **Parse stderr** for error messages on failure
4. **Use absolute paths** for all file operations
5. **Verify outputs exist** after export operations
