What cicd-pipeline-setup does

This skill gives the agent a frame for writing an automated pipeline: run the tests, build artifacts, scan for security issues, ship to several environments. It covers GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins and CircleCI, with a separate reference file for each.

Four guides sit in references/: github-actions-workflow.md, gitlab-ci-pipeline.md, jenkins-pipeline.md and cicd-script.md. The main file carries a minimal GitHub Actions workflow with a Node version matrix and REGISTRY and IMAGE_NAME variables; the full implementations live in the guides. There is also a do-and-don't list — keep credentials out of pipeline config, don't deploy without tests, gate production behind approval.

The skill does not write the pipeline for you. It shapes what the agent proposes and what it checks. If your repo has no tests yet, or secrets sit in plain YAML, that comes first — the skill names both as mistakes.

What it helps with

  • write a test-and-build workflow from scratch
  • keep staging and production pipelines apart
  • add security scanning to the pipeline
  • cache dependencies and run tests in parallel
  • move secrets out of pipeline configuration

Example prompts for the agent

  • Set up a CI/CD pipeline for this repo with GitHub Actions
  • Write a workflow that tests on pull requests and deploys to prod only after approval
  • Port our Jenkins pipeline to GitLab CI, keep the build and deploy steps

How to install cicd-pipeline-setup

1Skills CLI (Vercel)

## Overview

Build automated continuous integration and deployment pipelines that test code, build artifacts, run security checks, and deploy to multiple environments with minimal manual intervention.

## When to Use

- Automated code testing and quality checks
- Containerized application builds
- Multi-environment deployments
- Release management and versioning
- Automated security scanning
- Performance testing integration
- Artifact management and registry

## Quick Start

Minimal working example:

```yaml
# .github/workflows/deploy.yml
name: Build and Deploy
on:
  push:
    branches:
      - main
      - develop
  pull_request:
    branches:
      - main
  workflow_dispatch:
env:
  REGISTRY: ghcr.io
  IMAGE_NAME: ${{ github.repository }}
jobs:
  test:
    runs-on: ubuntu-latest
    strategy:
      matrix:
        node-version: [18.x, 20.x]
    steps:
// ... (see reference guides for full implementation)
```

## Reference Guides

## Best Practices

### ✅ DO

- Fail fast with early validation
- Run tests in parallel when possible
- Use caching for dependencies
- Implement proper secret management
- Gate production deployments with approval
- Monitor and alert on pipeline failures
- Use consistent environment configuration
- Implement infrastructure as code

### ❌ DON'T

- Store credentials in pipeline configuration
- Deploy without automated tests
- Skip security scanning
- Allow long-running pipelines
- Mix staging and production pipelines
- Ignore test failures
- Deploy directly to main branch
- Skip health checks after deployment
