azure-kubernetes-app-deploy — Claude Code skill: how to install
Containerizes web apps and APIs to deploy them directly onto an active Azure Kubernetes Service cluster. Validates manifests against AKS Deployment Safeguards.
npx skills add microsoft/skills --skill azure-kubernetes-app-deploy -a claude-codeWhat azure-kubernetes-app-deploy does
The skill detects project frameworks, resolves base container images, and crafts Dockerfiles alongside Kubernetes manifests. It includes profiles for Spring Boot, Express, Next.js, FastAPI, Django, NestJS, ASP.NET Core, Go, and Flask. Workload Identity setups and GitHub Actions workflow templates come bundled as well.
Before launching workloads, it verifies configuration against AKS Deployment Safeguards checklist items DS001 through DS013. When automated checks fail or a release breaks, recovery instructions help roll back changes.
This skill requires an active AKS cluster, configured kubectl, and an authenticated az login session. It cannot build infrastructure from scratch. Cluster provisioning belongs to the separate azure-kubernetes skill.
What it helps with
- containerize backend APIs and web applications with generated Dockerfiles
- build Kubernetes manifests matching framework networking and health checks
- pass AKS Deployment Safeguards validation across rules DS001 to DS013
- configure Workload Identity and automated delivery via GitHub Actions
Example prompts for the agent
- Generate a Dockerfile and Kubernetes manifests to run this Django app on AKS
- Inspect our deployment manifests against AKS Deployment Safeguards DS001-DS013
- Configure GitHub Actions workflows to deploy this service to our existing AKS cluster

1Skills CLI (Vercel)
npx skills add microsoft/skills --skill azure-kubernetes-app-deploy -a claude-code2Manually: put the files in place
~/.claude/skills/azure-kubernetes-app-deploy/SKILL.mdCopy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/azure-kubernetes-app-deploy/
Manually: put the files in place
.agents/skills/azure-kubernetes-app-deploy/SKILL.mdFor all projects use ~/.agents/skills/
Manually: put the files in place
.cursor/skills/azure-kubernetes-app-deploy/SKILL.mdCursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

Questions about azure-kubernetes-app-deploy
How to install azure-kubernetes-app-deploy in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add microsoft/skills --skill azure-kubernetes-app-deploy -a claude-code in your terminal. You can also place the specification directly at ~/.claude/skills/azure-kubernetes-app-deploy/SKILL.md.
What does azure-kubernetes-app-deploy do?
It inspects code to detect the web framework, generates Dockerfiles and Kubernetes manifests, validates them against AKS Deployment Safeguards, and verifies the deployment.
Can azure-kubernetes-app-deploy create a new AKS cluster?
No, it works only with existing clusters. Provisioning must be handled separately using the azure-kubernetes skill, and your local environment needs az login and kubectl ready.
