spark-preflight — Claude Code command: DGX Spark preflight check
Runs a preflight on a DGX Spark box for a planned training or inference job and writes env-report.json with a verdict.
/plugin marketplace add wshobson/agents
/plugin install dgx-spark-ops@claude-code-workflowsWhat spark-preflight does
The command kicks off a full preflight for the job you describe. It first confirms the hardware — GB10, aarch64, CUDA 13 — and the stack state via the spark-environment-setup skill. Then it runs checks G1–G10 from the spark-training-gotchas skill, tagging each one pass, fail, warn, skip or info.
Next it works out memory headroom for the job using the spark-memory-thermal-ops worksheets. Output is env-report.json in the current directory plus a verdict: ready, ready-with-warnings or blocked. When the box is blocked, the command surfaces the exact fix from that gotcha's FIX entry first, ahead of any other suggestion.
The heavy lifting goes to the dgx-spark-ops-engineer subagent. You pass the workload as the command argument, for instance “QLoRA 8B, 3 epochs, 8k context”. No workload description means nothing to check, so the argument is required.
What it helps with
- confirm a DGX Spark box is ready for a training run
- catch a memory problem before a long job starts
- check CUDA version and architecture ahead of inference
- get an environment report written to a file
- find out which specific issue is blocking the run
Example prompts for the agent
- Preflight the DGX Spark for QLoRA 8B, 3 epochs, 8k context
- Run the checks and write
env-report.jsonto the current directory - Run G1–G10 and tell me what is blocking the run

Questions about spark-preflight
How do I install spark-preflight in Claude Code?
Through the marketplace: run /plugin marketplace add wshobson/agents, then /plugin install dgx-spark-ops@claude-code-workflows. The command lands at .claude/commands/spark-preflight.md.
What does spark-preflight do?
It checks a DGX Spark system against a specific workload: hardware, stack, checks G1–G10, memory headroom. You get env-report.json and a verdict of ready, ready-with-warnings or blocked.
What do I pass to the command?
A description of the planned workload as the argument, such as “QLoRA 8B, 3 epochs, 8k context”. Memory headroom and the check set are derived from it.
