release · davila7 — Claude Code command: what it does, how to install
Prepares project releases by parsing git history, bumping version files, updating CHANGELOG.md, and tagging git commits.
npx claude-code-templates@latest --command project-management/releaseWhat release does
The release slash command automates project versioning. It inspects local repository status through git status and reviews recent commits. After locating the previous git tag, it evaluates changes against semantic versioning conventions.
The command targets version files like package.json, setup.py, or Cargo.toml. It sorts changelog entries in CHANGELOG.md under sections like Added, Changed, and Fixed. When new features require documentation updates, it inspects README.md. A git release tag completes the run.
Execution relies on Read, Write, Edit, and Bash tools. Without an initialized git repository, tag inspection fails immediately. You can specify version increments manually using flags instead of automated inference.
What it helps with
- determine semver bump from recent git commits
- update version tags in package.json, setup.py, or Cargo.toml
- organize changelog entries into categorized sections
- tag the release commit in git
Example prompts for the agent
- /release
- /release --minor
- /release --patch
