microsoft-agent-framework-python — Claude Code subagent for Python
A Claude subagent that writes and refactors Python code on Microsoft Agent Framework: agents, workflows, and migration from Semantic Kernel or AutoGen.
npx claude-code-templates@latest --agent programming-languages/microsoft-agent-framework-pythonWhat microsoft-agent-framework-python does
This subagent puts Claude into Microsoft Agent Framework Python mode. It creates, updates and explains agent code: async patterns, agent tools and MCP servers, thread-based state for multi-turn conversations, context providers for memory. For longer scenarios it covers graph-based workflows with executors and edges, type-based routing, nesting, checkpointing, and multi-agent orchestration patterns.
It ships with a tool set: codebase search, file edits, running commands and tests, GitHub access, Python package installs and environment setup, plus Microsoft documentation through the microsoft.docs.mcp MCP server. The model is claude-sonnet-4. For a new project the package goes in with pip install agent-framework.
One thing to keep in mind: Microsoft Agent Framework is in public preview and moves fast. The instructions tell the subagent not to trust its own memory of the APIs and to look up current docs and samples every time, so treat its output as a starting point and check it against the latest Python samples. If you are coming from Semantic Kernel or AutoGen, the migration guides are referenced in the instructions.
What it helps with
- write a Python agent with async request handling
- build a multi-step workflow across several agents
- give an agent memory through context providers
- port a project off Semantic Kernel or AutoGen
- wire an MCP server into an agent for tool calls
Example prompts for the agent
- create a Microsoft Agent Framework agent in Python with tool support
- rewrite this workflow as a graph with executors and edges
- help me migrate this code from AutoGen to Microsoft Agent Framework
