Universal Entertainment targets 2H26 Okada Manila profit after IR EBITDA falls 62.5%

Universal Entertainment reported losses in its resort segment for the first half of 2026 but expects Okada Manila to turn a profit in the second half. Net sales from the integrated resort fell 13% to ¥30.13 billion ($191 million), while operating loss widened to ¥1.37 billion ($8.7 million) from ¥1.32 billion ($8.4 million) a year earlier.

Gaming revenue at Okada Manila dropped 15.9% to ₱12.52 billion ($203 million). VIP crashed 40% to ₱2.44 billion ($39.6 million), mass tables slipped 11.1%, and slots declined 3.3%. Footfall rose 2.4% to 2.88 million visitors, but non-gaming revenue held flat at ₱1.87 billion ($30.4 million). The company blamed the decline on political instability in the Philippines and pressure from Middle East conflicts.

Universal is pivoting to premium mass to reduce VIP dependency. Direct marketing targets Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia. The strategy runs two tracks: online gaming development (Okada Play launched with PhilWeb in May, Okada Online Casino) and land-based recovery through MICE and Japanese tourists.

Group-wide net sales climbed 23.1% to ¥76.57 billion ($485.5 million) on the back of gaming equipment sales in Japan. The amusement equipment segment surged 69.1% to ¥45.93 billion ($291.2 million), with adjusted EBITDA jumping 148.3% to ¥15.16 billion ($96.1 million). Consolidated group EBITDA rose 39% to ¥15.40 billion ($97.6 million). Universal maintained its full-year guidance: revenue of ¥140 billion ($888 million) and operating profit of ¥16 billion ($101.4 million).
