career-transitions — скилл для Claude Code: разбор смены работы
Скилл помогает оценить нынешнюю работу и выбрать следующую: проверяет среду, энергию и качество партнёров. Пригодится перед сменой роли или компании.
npx skills add RefoundAI/lenny-skills --skill career-transitions -a claude-codeЧто делает career-transitions
Полный список с деталями лежит в references/artifacts.md.

--- name: career-transitions description: Help users evaluate new opportunities, manage professional identity shifts, and transition into roles that maximize both impact and personal fulfillment. --- # Navigating Career Transitions Move beyond the default path by optimizing for high-growth environments and internal energy. Help the user with navigating career transitions using insights from 24 guests and posts across Lenny's Podcast and Newsletter. ## How to Help 1. **Audit current fit** - Use data-driven frameworks to assess if your current environment supports your unique skill set. 2. **Identify energy sources** - Move away from logical checklists to find roles that generate internal excitement and heat. 3. **Evaluate organizational quality** - Look past titles to verify leadership commitment to growth and partner quality. 4. **Plan the transition** - Create intentional space between roles to shed old habits and prepare for new cultural norms. ## Core Principles ### Perform an annual environment audit Bangaly Kaba: "The framework is really that there's impact that you're really trying to drive and that is the thing that is the most important. And the impact is only achievable by looking at two sets of variables, a set of variables related to the environment, a set of variables related to your skills, and really breaking down each and understanding what's happening in the environment bit by bit and what's happening with your skills and where are you hindered structurally within the environment?" Maximize success by objectively scoring your manager, resources, and team to ensure the environment actually enables your skills. ### Use a car wash gap between jobs Bob Baxley: "The thing I took away from Apple, and I think this is true for anybody changing from one major culture to another is most likely the new place hires you because of the values of the organization you left, but not the behaviors. And so I think it's important to recalibrate and say, well, I want to hold onto these values." Give yourself a significant time buffer to intentionally shed the behavioral habits of your previous role before starting a new one. ### Prioritize cliff-jumping opportunities Molly Graham: "I only like doing jobs that I'm highly unqualified for. I like being on learning curves so steep that I'm scared I'm going to fall off. And so I left and I wanted to learn what it took to build something from nothing." The fastest growth occurs when you choose roles that exceed your current capabilities and make you feel slightly scared or unqualified. ### Value category leaders over high titles Gokul Rajaram: "Ultimately you don't realize this, but the value of working at a leader in any space, the quality of talent you work with, the brand, the network effect, so many things accrue to you. I would much rather be the number two or number three person. If you think of it that way, and the leader in a space, than the top person." Joining a winner provides superior brand equity and an elite network compared to a higher title at a secondary player. ### Seek work that feels like play Sam Schillace: "But the reality is you should go do the thing that you feel guilty to get paid for, if there's a thing like that, and do the hell out of it, right? Do it as hard as you can. If you get pleasure from doing something that people want to pay you for, do it the best you can do it, as hard as you can do it." Identify the high-value tasks that feel so effortless to you that you almost feel guilty being paid for them. ### Set pre-planned exit triggers Gergely: "I told myself, if four years later Uber exits and I make a bunch of money, I owe it to myself to take a risk, because then I'll have four years of savings in my bank, which... Back then I had maybe six months of savings or something. So this was the promise to myself." Establish specific financial or temporal milestones as the necessary catalyst for taking high-stakes entrepreneurial risks. ### VET your cross-functional partners Tamar Yehoshua: "Make sure you go somewhere where you have a good engineering partner. Because if you have great ideas of what to build but you can't get them built, then you go nowhere. So that has to be part of your evaluation criteria that you meet and value your engineering partner before you join." The quality of your engineering and design partners is often more critical to your success than the product vision itself. ## Templates & Frameworks - **PM Career Acceleration Scorecard (6 Dimensions)** (Which companies accelerate PM careers most) - A framework for evaluating which companies best accelerate PM careers, using six data-driven dimensions that can be triangulated into an overall ranking - **PM Career Goal Matching Framework** (Which companies produce the best product managers) - A decision framework for choosing which company to join based on your specific career goal as a PM - **Engineer-to-PM Career Switch Self-Assessment** (Should I become a product manager) - A two-part checklist to help engineers evaluate whether they should pursue product management or stay in engineering. Designed as a 'which bucket do you fall in - **Three-Phase Web3 Transition Roadmap for PMs** (A product manager’s guide to web3) - Step-by-step process for a web2 PM to transition into web3, organized into Learn, Search, and Ape In phases - **PM Role Evaluation Checklist for Company Assessment** (A comprehensive survey of Product Management) - A multi-dimensional checklist for evaluating a PM role at a specific company, derived from the survey's four key dimensions - **Four Role Architecture Tests** (How tech’s most resilient workers handle burnout) - Four evaluation tests for assessing whether your current role and company are the right fit, to prevent structural burnout from job misalignment. - **Startup PM vs. Big Company PM Comparison** (Startup PM vs. big company PM) - A visual comparison (table/image) contrasting the differences between being a PM at a startup versus a big company, accompanied by a list of similarities - **7-Step Layoff Preparedness Checklist** (How to be prepared for layoffs) - A comprehensive 7-step checklist for preparing for potential layoffs, crowdsourced from people who were recently laid off See `references/artifacts.md` for the full list with details. ## Questions to Help Users - "What specific part of your work makes you feel so energized that it feels like play?" - "If success were 100 percent guaranteed, which career path would you choose right now?" - "Does this new role force you to jump off a cliff and learn significantly faster than your current one?" - "What are the specific financial or time milestones that would trigger your next major move?" - "How well do your potential engineering and design partners align with your vision for the product?" - "Are you choosing this role for the brand prestige or because the day-to-day reality feels like home?" ## Common Mistakes to Flag - **Chasing titles at weaker companies** - Titles are temporary but the network and brand equity of a category leader provide much higher long-term value. - **Jumping into new roles without a break** - Without a car wash period you often carry the baggage and behavioral patterns of your old culture into the new organization. - **Ignoring internal energy for logical pros and cons** - Logic often masks a lack of passion which leads to burnout once the honeymoon phase of a new job ends. - **Overestimating the risk of non-linear moves** - Professional setbacks or unconventional paths are often temporary B-side moments that lead to greater long-term success. ## Deep Dive For all 50 sourced insights from 24 guests, see `references/guest-insights.md` ## Related Skills - Breaking Into Product - Pm Career Growth - Building A Promotion Case - Negotiating Compensation
