## What it does

The skill equips coding agents with direct access to YouTube transcripts and channel feeds through TranscriptAPI. It extracts video captions with timestamps, looks up creator handles, and retrieves view counts. This comes in handy when tutorials or conference talks contain newer details than static web pages.

You need an API key stored in `TRANSCRIPT_API_KEY`. Every `curl` request requires two specific headers: `Authorization` with your bearer token and `User-Agent` with your agent name. Omitting the agent header causes Cloudflare to block the request with a 403 response.

Handle lookups and the latest 15 videos from a channel are free. Transcript extraction and search consume 1 credit per page. The skill is strictly for research and data retrieval, so it does not support video uploads or YouTube account management.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills --skill youtube-full -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/youtube-full/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/youtube-full/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills --skill youtube-full -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/youtube-full/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills --skill youtube-full -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/youtube-full/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills youtube-full
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/youtube-full/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills --skill youtube-full -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills --path clawhub/youtube-full
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/youtube-full/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills --skill youtube-full -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills/tree/HEAD/clawhub/youtube-full/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- fetch video transcripts with timestamps in text or JSON format
- search YouTube videos by date, duration, and feature filters
- resolve channel handles and retrieve recent uploads
- extract video metadata including views, likes, and tags

## Example prompts
- Get the transcript for this YouTube URL with timestamps included
- Search for recent videos about Rust async runtime published this month
- List the latest uploads from the @TED channel and show view counts

# YouTube Full

Complete YouTube toolkit via [TranscriptAPI.com](https://transcriptapi.com). Everything in one skill.

## Setup

If `$TRANSCRIPT_API_KEY` is not set, read [references/auth-setup.md](references/auth-setup.md) and follow the instructions there to get and store the key.

## Required Headers

Every request needs two headers:

- **Authorization:** `Bearer $TRANSCRIPT_API_KEY`
- **User-Agent:** your agent's name and version if known (e.g. `HermesAgent/0.11.0`, `ClaudeCode/1.0`). Version is optional — agent name alone is fine. Do not omit this header or send a bare default — Cloudflare will return a 403 (error code 1010) and block the request.
