## What it does

This skill turns your primary agent into an orchestrator that passes bounded coding tasks to the Z.AI ZCode CLI. You formulate goals and project constraints in a task brief, then fire the bundled `relay.mjs` script. ZCode runs headlessly in `yolo` mode to edit code or in `plan` mode via `--read-only` for inspection, writing its artifacts to a temporary folder while keeping your git tree clean.

Setup requires Node 18+, git, and the desktop ZCode package. Because ZCode bundles its CLI inside the desktop application rather than on PATH or npm, the relay resolves it through `--zcode-path`, the `ZCODE_CLI` environment variable, or known app directories. On Linux AppImage installs, setting the path explicitly is mandatory.

Logging into the desktop app will not authenticate the headless CLI. You must configure `~/.zcode/cli/config.json` with a provider definition and export `ZAI_API_KEY`, `ZCODE_API_KEY`, or `ANTHROPIC_API_KEY` in your environment.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add amElnagdy/delegate-skills --skill zcode-delegate -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/zcode-delegate/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/zcode-delegate/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add amElnagdy/delegate-skills --skill zcode-delegate -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/zcode-delegate/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add amElnagdy/delegate-skills --skill zcode-delegate -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/zcode-delegate/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install amElnagdy/delegate-skills zcode-delegate
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/zcode-delegate/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add amElnagdy/delegate-skills --skill zcode-delegate -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/amElnagdy/delegate-skills --path skills/zcode-delegate
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/zcode-delegate/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add amElnagdy/delegate-skills --skill zcode-delegate -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/amElnagdy/delegate-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/zcode-delegate/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- hand off implementation work to a background ZCode process
- inspect code and diagnose errors without file edits using `--read-only`
- resume an existing ZCode task session with `--session` or `--resume-last`
- block destructive tool access during CLI execution via `--disallowed-tools`

## Example prompts
- Have ZCode implement the storage adapter based on the brief and show me the diff
- Delegate this refactor to ZCode in read-only mode to diagnose the failure
- Run the migration script task through ZCode and wait for result.json

compatibility: Requires the `zcode` CLI (Z.AI ZCode) with a configured model provider, Node 18+, and git. ZCode ships its CLI inside the desktop app rather than on PATH or npm — see Prerequisites. The orchestrating agent must be able to run shell commands and read files. Shell examples assume bash/zsh (macOS/Linux, or Git Bash/WSL on Windows).

# ZCode Delegate

You are the **orchestrator**. This skill lets you hand a bounded coding task to a separate
**implementer** — the Z.AI ZCode CLI — then review what it produced and land it yourself. You write
the brief and own the judgment; ZCode does the typing; you verify and commit.

Nothing here is specific to one orchestrating agent. The loop needs only the ability to run a shell
command and read a file. (It is designed for and run on Claude Code; treat other orchestrators as
designed-for, not yet proven.)

## When NOT to use this

- The task is small enough to just do inline — delegation overhead is not worth it.
- ZCode is not installed, or its CLI has no model provider configured.
- You want to write the code yourself, or you only need a review.

## Prerequisites (check once)

1. **ZCode is installed.** The CLI ships **inside the desktop app** — it is not on PATH and not on
   npm. The relay resolves it in this order: `--zcode-path <file>` or `ZCODE_CLI` first, then PATH,
   then the installed app bundle. On Linux the app is an AppImage with no fixed install path, so
   the flag or the environment variable is required there — the relay guesses nothing.
2. **A model provider is configured for the CLI**, with a key it can actually reach. Being signed
   into the desktop app is *not* enough — see below.
3. You are in (or will point `--cd` at) the target git repository.

The relay records the CLI version and how it was resolved into `result.json`, so a surprising
install is visible after the fact.

## Authenticating the headless CLI

**Signing into the ZCode desktop app does not authenticate the CLI this relay drives.** The CLI
