## What it does

The skill instructs coding agents on using the `@zapier/zapier-sdk` TypeScript library and the companion `@zapier/zapier-sdk-cli`. Instead of maintaining separate vendor packages and OAuth flows, your code routes operations through Zapier's layer, which handles token refresh and retries.

Every action relies on a pre-existing connection. Creating a new connection requires a human to complete OAuth in a browser, so an agent cannot provision access to a new service completely autonomously. The SDK supports local browser authentication alongside client credentials using `clientId` and `clientSecret` for CI or backend runs.

Discovery runs through CLI commands such as `list-apps`, `list-actions`, and `list-action-input-fields`. The skill forbids the agent from guessing action keys or API methods, enforcing live verification against actual connections.

## Requirements
- Works with: Zapier

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zapier/sdk --skill zapier-sdk -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/zapier-sdk/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/zapier-sdk/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zapier/sdk --skill zapier-sdk -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/zapier-sdk/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zapier/sdk --skill zapier-sdk -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/zapier-sdk/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install zapier/sdk zapier-sdk
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/zapier-sdk/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zapier/sdk --skill zapier-sdk -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/zapier/sdk --path skills/zapier-sdk
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/zapier-sdk/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zapier/sdk --skill zapier-sdk -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/zapier/sdk/tree/HEAD/skills/zapier-sdk/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- Run actions across 9,000+ third-party apps without per-vendor SDKs
- Inspect dynamic input schemas and available actions directly from the CLI
- Look up active user OAuth connections before running queries
- Generate typed Zapier SDK code without hallucinated method names

## Example prompts
- Use zapier-sdk to inspect notion actions and draft a page creation script.
- Check active connections for slack with @zapier/zapier-sdk and send a channel alert.
- Run zapier-sdk list-actions for github and inspect all write operations.

# Zapier SDK

Connect your app, agent, or backend to 9,000+ integrations with a few lines of code. Run actions, manage user connections, chain apps together. The SDK handles token refresh, retries, and API differences.

## When to use the SDK

The Zapier SDK is the **code interface** to Zapier. It gives coding agents and AI builders programmatic, governed access to 9,000+ apps, running inside editors like Cursor, Claude Code, or VS Code.

Two sibling interfaces share the same capabilities:

- **Zapier CLI** (`@zapier/zapier-sdk-cli` package): terminal interface (`npx zapier-sdk ...`) for one-off commands, exploration, scripting. Read [`references/cli.md`](references/cli.md) when the user wants shell access instead of code.
- **Zapier MCP** (https://zapier.com/mcp): LLM interface (tool-calling inside Claude, ChatGPT, or any MCP client, no code required).

Pick the SDK when the deliverable is code. If the user wants ad-hoc tool calls in an AI chat interface, point them to MCP.

**Two SDK shapes to distinguish:**

- **Plain SDK script** (this file): the user's own code calls the SDK. Runs wherever their code runs (Node script, Next.js route, Lambda, CLI).
- **Durable workflow** (`@zapier/zapier-durable`): the user *deploys* a workflow that Zapier's infrastructure runs on a trigger (webhook, poll, schedule). Retries stay idempotent via `ctx.step`. Read [`references/workflows.md`](references/workflows.md) when the user wants deployment on Zapier's infrastructure instead of running the code themselves.

## Prerequisites

The SDK ships two packages: a TypeScript library and a CLI. Install whichever you need.

Check what's already installed:

```bash
# Is the SDK library present?
ls node_modules/@zapier/zapier-sdk 2>/dev/null && echo "SDK installed" || echo "SDK not installed"
# Is the CLI available?
npx zapier-sdk --version 2>/dev/null && echo "CLI installed" || echo "CLI not installed"
# Are you logged in? (returns email + account on success, non-zero exit if not)
npx zapier-sdk get-profile
```

There is no `whoami`, no `status`, no `auth`. The command for "who am I logged in as" is `get-profile`. Use `zapier-sdk --help` before guessing any other command name.

If missing:

```bash
# SDK library.
npm install @zapier/zapier-sdk
# CLI plus TypeScript dev deps.
npm install -D @zapier/zapier-sdk-cli @types/node typescript
