# zapier-explore

This skill asks about your role and daily apps, then proposes Zapier MCP workflows and the actions needed to enable them. Use it to expand beyond a first Zapier action.

## What it does

The skill asks what you do and which apps you work in. It uses those answers to suggest workflows, such as finding Jira issues or turning a Slack discussion into a Linear issue. Each suggestion includes the Zapier actions needed to make it work.

Choose a workflow and the skill groups its required actions by app, then guides you through enabling them in Zapier. It checks whether the new tools appear in your MCP client. App accounts use OAuth, and a client restart may be needed to refresh the tool list.

This skill follows `zapier-demo`. If you have not run a Zapier action yet, start with the demo. To install it in Claude Code, run `npx skills add zapier/zapier-mcp --skill zapier-explore -a claude-code`; the skill file is at `~/.claude/skills/zapier-explore/SKILL.md`.

## Requirements
- Works with: Zapier

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zapier/zapier-mcp --skill zapier-explore -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/zapier-explore/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/zapier-explore/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zapier/zapier-mcp --skill zapier-explore -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/zapier-explore/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zapier/zapier-mcp --skill zapier-explore -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/zapier-explore/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install zapier/zapier-mcp zapier-explore
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/zapier-explore/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zapier/zapier-mcp --skill zapier-explore -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/zapier/zapier-mcp --path plugins/zapier/skills/zapier-explore
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/zapier-explore/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zapier/zapier-mcp --skill zapier-explore -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/zapier/zapier-mcp/tree/HEAD/plugins/zapier/skills/zapier-explore/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- match Zapier workflows to a role and its daily apps
- identify the actions a workflow needs
- group required actions by app
- check whether newly enabled actions appear in the MCP client

## Example prompts
- Suggest Zapier workflows for my work. I use Jira for tasks and Slack for discussions.
- What else could I automate with Zapier across the apps I use? List workflows and the actions each needs.
- I want the Jira and Slack workflow. Give me the actions to enable, then check whether they show up.

# Zapier explore

Help the user expand beyond the first action — figure out what Zapier MCP can do for them based on their role and apps, then walk them through enabling a starter set of actions tailored to that work.

This is the natural follow-on to `zapier-demo`. Demo proves one action works; explore turns that into a real toolkit for the user's day-to-day.

For how the Zapier MCP server itself works, see [docs.zapier.com/mcp](https://docs.zapier.com/mcp/home).

## When to use vs. other skills

- **zapier-explore** (this skill) — *role-tailored expansion.* Interview + use cases + configuration.
- **zapier-demo** — *one app, one action, run it live.* Run this first if the user hasn't seen Zapier work yet.
- **zapier-onboard** — *pitch + connect.* Server-level authentication only. Run this before demo if the server isn't connected.
- **zapier-status** — *health checks and audits* on an existing setup.

If the user hasn't run their first action yet, route to **zapier-demo** first — explore works best after a win.

## Step 1: Interview

Keep it short — two or three questions, not a survey. Adapt follow-ups based on answers.

Open with:

> "Let's figure out what to add to your Zapier toolkit. Quick context first — what do you do for work, and what apps are you in every day?"

Listen for:
- **Role / function** (engineer, PM, sales, marketing, founder, support, creator, ops, recruiter, finance, exec, personal)
- **Named apps** (Slack, Gmail, Jira, HubSpot, etc.)
- **Industry signals** (sole automation builder vs. on a team, B2B vs. consumer, startup vs. enterprise)

If they give you only role *or* only apps, ask one follow-up. If they give you both, optionally ask:

> "Is there a task you keep redoing manually that you'd love to delegate?"

Don't push past three questions. Move on with what you've got.

## Step 2: Suggest use cases

Pick the **role library** below that best matches the user's answers (multiple is fine — combine for hybrid roles). For each, surface 4–6 use cases tailored to the apps they mentioned. If they named an app you don't have in the library, default to the closest equivalent (e.g., "Outlook" → use the Gmail patterns; "Monday.com" → use the Asana patterns).

For each use case, output:
```
