## What it does

The `yt` skill talks to TranscriptAPI.com and hands your agent what you would otherwise copy by hand: the transcript text, search hits for a query, the latest videos from a channel. It also fires when YouTube is never named — a pasted link, a video ID or an @handle is enough.

Four endpoints sit behind it. Transcript and search cost 1 credit each; channel latest and handle resolution are free. Every request carries two headers: `Authorization: Bearer $TRANSCRIPT_API_KEY` and a `User-Agent` naming your agent. Skip the second one and Cloudflare answers 403 with code 1010 — that is the first thing to check when nothing comes back.

You need a `TRANSCRIPT_API_KEY`, which starts with `sk_`. A free account covers 100 credits and asks for no card. No extra runtimes or dependencies are involved, but the machine has to reach transcriptapi.com. Uploads and account management are outside its scope.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills --skill yt -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/yt/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/yt/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills --skill yt -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/yt/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills --skill yt -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/yt/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills yt
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/yt/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills --skill yt -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills --path clawhub/yt
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/yt/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills --skill yt -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/ZeroPointRepo/youtube-skills/tree/HEAD/clawhub/yt/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- pull the transcript from a pasted video link
- search YouTube for a topic and hand back a list
- check what a channel published most recently
- turn an @handle into a `UC...` channel ID
- summarise someone else's video without copying text by hand

## Example prompts
- here's a link, grab the transcript and give me a short summary
- search YouTube for Rust async talks and show the first 10
- what has @TED uploaded lately

# yt

Quick YouTube lookup via [TranscriptAPI.com](https://transcriptapi.com).

## Setup

If `$TRANSCRIPT_API_KEY` is not set, read [references/auth-setup.md](references/auth-setup.md) and follow the instructions there to get and store the key.

## Required Headers

Every request needs two headers:

- **Authorization:** `Bearer $TRANSCRIPT_API_KEY`
- **User-Agent:** your agent's name and version if known (e.g. `HermesAgent/0.11.0`, `ClaudeCode/1.0`). Version is optional — agent name alone is fine. Do not omit this header or send a bare default — Cloudflare will return a 403 (error code 1010) and block the request.
