## What it does

The skill handles the publishing side: the agent writes the metadata and config, while the video file and script come in as inputs. The description goes into `content.text`, and publishing runs through WoopSocial over the YouTube fields — `title`, `privacy`, `category`, `tags`, `madeForKids`. There is no update path here, so edits mean delete and recreate before publishing, or Studio afterwards.

Inside sits the INDEX framework. The title carries the primary keyword in the first ~40 characters out of ~50–60 total. The description leads with value above the fold, then 300–500 words of natural copy with keyword-named chapters and 3–7 links plus an affiliate disclosure. The first tag is the exact primary keyword; the rest stay relevant. Category and privacy follow the goal.

\`madeForKids` is a legal flag under COPPA/FTC, and it gets set truthfully — it turns off comments and personalized ads. That is not a reach lever, and getting it wrong costs more than losing impressions. The thumbnail and A/B title testing stay in native YouTube Studio, since no API field covers them, so the video has to be shot and edited before you run the skill. No ranking is promised: metadata gets you discovered, retention decides the rest.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill youtube-publishing-and-metadata -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/youtube-publishing-and-metadata/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/youtube-publishing-and-metadata/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill youtube-publishing-and-metadata -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/youtube-publishing-and-metadata/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill youtube-publishing-and-metadata -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/youtube-publishing-and-metadata/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install social-media-skills/skills youtube-publishing-and-metadata
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/youtube-publishing-and-metadata/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill youtube-publishing-and-metadata -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/social-media-skills/skills --path skills/youtube-publishing-and-metadata
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/youtube-publishing-and-metadata/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill youtube-publishing-and-metadata -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/social-media-skills/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/youtube-publishing-and-metadata/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- write a title with the keyword up front
- build a description with chapters and links
- set tags, category and privacy
- set madeForKids without breaking COPPA
- prepare the WoopSocial publish config

## Example prompts
- Write the title, description with chapters and tags for this video
- Set the category, privacy and madeForKids for this upload
- Check the metadata before publishing through WoopSocial

  The YouTube publish-metadata skill. Use when someone wants to "write a YouTube title/description,"
  "set tags/category/privacy," "optimize YouTube SEO/metadata," set made-for-kids, or publish a
  YouTube video via WoopSocial. Writes the metadata (title, description+chapters, tags) and sets
  category/privacy/madeForKids — YouTube is a search engine, so metadata is the launchpad, and
  madeForKids is a COPPA/FTC legal flag set truthfully. Uses the INDEX framework. Reads
  brand-profile + goals-and-kpis + the script/video first. The video file + script are inputs (not
  WoopSocial); the thumbnail and A/B title testing are native YouTube Studio; WoopSocial publishes
  via the YouTube fields; metrics never fabricated. Distinct from youtube-long-form/youtube-shorts

# youtube-publishing-and-metadata

A **format-execution skill** — write the YouTube publish metadata (title, description+chapters, tags) and
set category/privacy/madeForKids. The agent **writes the metadata + config**; the **video FILE + script are
inputs**; **WoopSocial publishes via the YouTube fields**; the **thumbnail + A/B testing are native Studio**.

## The POV: YouTube is a search engine; metadata is the launchpad
YouTube is the **2nd-largest search engine** (~27% of traffic from search, ~70% from recommendations — both
metadata-fed), and metadata is what it reads **before user behavior kicks in**: the **launchpad** that lets
a good video **compound for years**. But be honest — **retention keeps it ranking**; metadata gets you
discovered, it doesn't guarantee a rank. The **title does two jobs at once** (rank via the keyword + earn
the click), the **description's above-the-fold lines** carry the most weight, **tags are a minor signal now**
(get the first one right), and **`madeForKids` is a legal flag**, not a reach lever.

## Read these first
1. **brand-profile** — niche/voice + how the audience searches.
2. **goals-and-kpis** — the goal (search reach / subscribers / watch time).
3. the **script/video** (often from **youtube-long-form**/**youtube-shorts**).

## The framework: INDEX
