## What it does

The skill walks a discovery, fetch, edit, test, publish, verify path. It finds the workflow, checks for open drafts, pulls the current source, applies your change, tests it, then publishes. Every edit goes through the workflow's server draft — the working copy the Zapier editor shares. Publishing writes to the user's Zapier account, so the skill asks for explicit confirmation first.

Before anything runs, the skill calls the `workflows-doctor` bundle compatibility check. If that is missing, install `workflows-install` or `workflows-doctor` from `zapier/agent-skills` first. When the doctor reports SDK or skill drift, the invocation stops and you rerun the original request after refreshing. The commands need `zapier-sdk` 0.85.0 or newer, since the `--stability` flag does not exist in older builds.

Start mode is the part worth watching. A workflow runs either on a trigger or manually, and the skill has to carry that mode into the new version. If a saved trigger exists but the live `triggers[]` list is empty, the skill refuses to label the workflow manual and stops to reconcile with you — a silently triggerless republish is exactly what that check guards against. A stale draft with no unpublished changes gets discarded, and the skill forks a fresh one from live.

## Requirements
- Works with: Zapier

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zapier/agent-skills --skill workflows-modify -a claude-code
```
```bash
npx skills add zapier/agent-skills --skill modify -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/modify/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/modify/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zapier/agent-skills --skill modify -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/modify/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zapier/agent-skills --skill modify -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/modify/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install zapier/agent-skills modify
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/modify/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zapier/agent-skills --skill modify -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/zapier/agent-skills --path skills/workflows/modify
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/modify/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add zapier/agent-skills --skill modify -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/zapier/agent-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/workflows/modify/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- repair a broken Zap without rebuilding it
- update the logic of a deployed workflow
- review a draft before it hits the account
- clear SDK and skill version drift
- keep the trigger intact across a republish

## Example prompts
- fix my Zap, it stopped firing
- update the workflow by id and leave the draft for review
- repair this Zap and publish it right away

# Zapier Workflows Modify

Modifying a deployed workflow follows a discovery, fetch, edit, test, publish, verify pattern. Every change goes through the workflow's server draft (the working copy shared with the Zapier editor): save the change into the draft, test the unpublished draft when the change warrants it, then either publish the tested draft or leave it open for the user to review and publish later.

Publishing writes to the user's Zapier account, so get explicit confirmation before publishing.

Use the public SDK CLI experimental command surface. Do not use `zapier-sdk-code-substrate`.

## Compatibility Gate

Before using this skill, run the `workflows-doctor` bundle compatibility check. If `workflows-doctor` is not installed or cannot be loaded, run `workflows-install` or install `workflows-doctor` from `zapier/agent-skills` before continuing. If `workflows-doctor` reports SDK/skill drift, follow its refresh instructions, stop this skill invocation, reload the agent workspace if needed, and ask the user to rerun the original request.

## Step 1: Identify The Workflow

If the user provides a workflow ID, use it directly. Otherwise list workflows and find the matching one by name or description:

```bash
zapier-sdk --stability experimental list-workflows --json
```

If multiple workflows match, show candidates and ask the user which one to modify.

## Step 2: Check For Open Drafts

```bash
zapier-sdk --stability experimental list-workflow-drafts <workflow-id> --json
```

The list returns open drafts, most recently edited first. An open draft always holds unpublished work (publishing consumes drafts, so a leftover one was never published).

- **An open draft exists:** work through it. It holds the user's in-progress edits and your change applies on top of it. If several are open, tell the user and confirm which to use.
- **No open draft:** create one in Step 3.
