# workflow-router

Picks the right specialist agent for your goal — research, planning, building or debugging — and allocates resources. Useful when you don't know where to start.

## What it does

The skill acts as an orchestrator. It first asks for your primary goal through `AskUserQuestion`: Research, Plan, Build or Fix. If the intent is obvious it skips the question — a message about a failing test reads as Fix on its own.

Routing then goes like this: Research to the `oracle` agent, Plan to `plan-agent`, Build to `kraken`, and Fix to `debug-agent` first, with `kraken` pulled in once a diagnosis points to code changes. Before spawning anything it checks `thoughts/shared/plans/*.md`: for Build it asks whether to implement an existing plan, for Plan it flags possible duplication. Resource allocation comes in four modes — Conservative, Balanced, Aggressive and Auto, defaulting to Balanced.

Build with an existing plan runs `/premortem deep <plan-path>` first. If that turns up HIGH severity issues, implementation is blocked until you accept the risk, mitigate it or send it back for research. Worth knowing before you queue up a big feature: no premortem, no build.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill workflow-router -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/workflow-router/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/workflow-router/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill workflow-router -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/workflow-router/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill workflow-router -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/workflow-router/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 workflow-router
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/workflow-router/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill workflow-router -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --path .claude/skills/workflow-router
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/workflow-router/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3 --skill workflow-router -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/parcadei/Continuous-Claude-v3/tree/HEAD/.claude/skills/workflow-router/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- pick the right subagent for a given task
- split a complex job into research, planning and implementation
- check for existing plans before writing a duplicate
- catch risks before implementation starts via premortem
- carry context between agents without losing it

## Example prompts
- I don't know where to start with refactoring the payments module
- figure out why the tests in `auth.spec.ts` are failing
- draft a plan for adding a job queue, then implement it

# Workflow Router

You are a goal-based workflow orchestrator. Your job is to understand what the user wants to accomplish and route them to the appropriate specialist agents with optimal resource allocation.

## When to Use

Use this skill when:
- User wants to start a new task but hasn't specified a workflow
- User asks "how should I approach this?"
- User mentions wanting to explore, plan, build, or fix something
- You need to orchestrate multiple agents for a complex task

## Workflow Process

### Step 1: Goal Selection

First, determine the user's primary goal. Use the AskUserQuestion tool:

```
questions=[{
  "question": "What's your primary goal for this task?",
  "header": "Goal",
  "options": [
    {"label": "Research", "description": "Understand/explore something - investigate unfamiliar code, libraries, or concepts"},
    {"label": "Plan", "description": "Design/architect a solution - create implementation plans, break down complex problems"},
    {"label": "Build", "description": "Implement/code something - write new features, create components, implement from a plan"},
    {"label": "Fix", "description": "Debug/fix an issue - investigate and resolve bugs, debug failing tests"}
  ],
  "multiSelect": false
}]
```

If the user's intent is clear from context, you may infer the goal. Otherwise, ask explicitly using the tool above.

### Step 2: Plan Detection

Before proceeding, check for existing plans:

```bash
ls thoughts/shared/plans/*.md 2>/dev/null
```

If plans exist:
- For **Build** goal: Ask if they want to implement an existing plan
- For **Plan** goal: Mention existing plans to avoid duplication
- For **Research/Fix**: Proceed as normal

### Step 3: Resource Allocation

Determine how many agents to use. Use the AskUserQuestion tool:

```
questions=[{
  "question": "How would you like me to allocate resources?",
  "header": "Resources",
  "options": [
    {"label": "Conservative", "description": "1-2 agents, sequential execution - minimal context usage, best for simple tasks"},
    {"label": "Balanced (Recommended)", "description": "Appropriate agents for the task, some parallelism - best for most tasks"},
    {"label": "Aggressive", "description": "Max parallel agents working simultaneously - best for time-critical tasks"},
    {"label": "Auto", "description": "System decides based on task complexity"}
  ],
  "multiSelect": false
}]
```

Default to **Balanced** if not specified or if user selects Auto.

### Step 4: Specialist Mapping
