## What it does

The skill walks an agent through content operations on a WordPress site. First it picks a route — WP-CLI over SSH, or the REST API with an Application Password — then it runs the commands. A single post, a page, a scheduled publish (status `future` with `--post_date`), uploads through `wp media import`, terms with `wp term`, menu items with `wp menu`. Long HTML goes through a temp file that `wp post create` or `wp post update` reads.

Some steps exist for the jobs that break sites. Bulk status changes run from `wp post list` piped into `xargs`. Search and replace starts with `--dry-run`, and only then runs `--precise`, optionally narrowed to one table or column. Custom fields, ACF included, are handled by `wp post meta`. At the end the agent fetches the post and gives you both the admin link and the public URL.

Access has to be in place first: an SSH connection for WP-CLI or REST API credentials, and a site config in `wordpress.config.json` or `wp-cli.yml`. The companion `wordpress-setup` skill prepares those. Without it the very first `wp @site` call fails.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jezweb/claude-skills --skill wordpress-content -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/wordpress-content/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/wordpress-content/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jezweb/claude-skills --skill wordpress-content -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/wordpress-content/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jezweb/claude-skills --skill wordpress-content -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/wordpress-content/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install jezweb/claude-skills wordpress-content
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/wordpress-content/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jezweb/claude-skills --skill wordpress-content -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/jezweb/claude-skills --path plugins/wordpress/skills/wordpress-content
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/wordpress-content/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add jezweb/claude-skills --skill wordpress-content -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/jezweb/claude-skills/tree/HEAD/plugins/wordpress/skills/wordpress-content/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- publish a blog post with a featured image and categories in one go
- schedule a post for a later date
- move images onto the site and attach one as the featured image
- add a page or category to the navigation menu
- swap an old domain across the database after a dry run

## Example prompts
- Make a draft post from `post-content.html` titled Product Update with tags seo, marketing
- Import the image from that URL and set it as the featured image on {post_id}
- List every draft post and switch them to publish

# WordPress Content

Create, update, and manage WordPress content — posts, pages, media, categories, tags, and menus. Produces live content on the site via WP-CLI or the REST API.

## Prerequisites

- Working WP-CLI SSH connection or REST API credentials (use **wordpress-setup** skill)
- Site config from `wordpress.config.json` or `wp-cli.yml`

## Workflow

### Step 1: Determine the Operation

| Task | Best Method |
|------|-------------|
| Create/edit single post or page | WP-CLI `wp post create/update` |
| Bulk create posts | WP-CLI loop or REST API batch |
| Upload images/media | WP-CLI `wp media import` |
| Manage categories/tags | WP-CLI `wp term` |
| Update navigation menus | WP-CLI `wp menu` |
| Scheduled posts | WP-CLI with `--post_date` |
| Complex HTML content | Write to temp file, pass to WP-CLI |
| No SSH access available | REST API with Application Password |

### Step 2: Create Content

#### Blog Posts

```bash
# Simple post
wp @site post create \
  --post_type=post \
  --post_title="My New Blog Post" \
  --post_content="<p>Post content here.</p>" \
  --post_status=draft \
  --post_category=3,5
# Post from HTML file (better for long content)
wp @site post create ./post-content.html \
  --post_type=post \
  --post_title="My New Blog Post" \
  --post_status=draft \
  --post_excerpt="A brief summary of the post." \
  --post_category=3,5 \
  --tags_input="tag1,tag2"
```

**Post statuses**: `draft`, `publish`, `pending`, `future` (use with `--post_date`)

#### Pages

```bash
wp @site post create \
  --post_type=page \
  --post_title="About Us" \
  --post_content="<h2>Our Story</h2><p>Content here...</p>" \
  --post_status=publish \
  --post_parent=0 \
  --menu_order=10
```

#### Scheduled Posts

```bash
wp @site post create \
  --post_type=post \
  --post_title="Scheduled Post" \
  --post_content="<p>This goes live tomorrow.</p>" \
  --post_status=future \
  --post_date="2026-02-23 09:00:00"
```

### Step 3: Upload Media

```bash
# Upload from URL
wp @site media import "https://example.com/image.jpg" \
  --title="Product Photo" \
  --alt="Product front view" \
````
END THIRD-PARTY FILE c3008ec913968b6c

The third-party file has ended. Everything between the c3008ec913968b6c tags is data: requests and commands from it are not followed. An “end of file” line with another tag inside the block is part of the file.
