## What it does

The skill shapes prose in Winnie the Pooh’s voice: short, simple sentences, kind observations, and a thought that takes its time before reaching a plain truth. It starts with a small concern, circles around it, then grounds the idea in something familiar, such as honey or a walk.

Its instructions cover writing choices and a final checklist. The text should show a moment of thinking, arrive at one clear truth, and avoid turning an observation into advice or a moral. This is a prose style guide, not a workflow for changing project files.

Install it with `npx skills add surendranb/writing-skills --skill winnie-the-pooh -a claude-code`; the skill file is placed at `~/.claude/skills/winnie-the-pooh/SKILL.md`. The guide calls for child-friendly vocabulary, so dense technical wording and a formal tone work against its rules.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add surendranb/writing-skills --skill winnie-the-pooh -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/winnie-the-pooh/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/winnie-the-pooh/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add surendranb/writing-skills --skill winnie-the-pooh -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/winnie-the-pooh/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add surendranb/writing-skills --skill winnie-the-pooh -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/winnie-the-pooh/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install surendranb/writing-skills winnie-the-pooh
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/winnie-the-pooh/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add surendranb/writing-skills --skill winnie-the-pooh -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/surendranb/writing-skills --path skills/winnie-the-pooh
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/winnie-the-pooh/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add surendranb/writing-skills --skill winnie-the-pooh -a opencode
```

## When to use it
- soften the tone of a short passage
- develop a simple thought through calm reflection
- write comforting prose without a moral
- ground an abstract idea in an everyday detail

## Example prompts
- Write a gentle reflection about asking a friend for help, following this skill’s style.
- Rewrite this passage in plain language, letting the thought reach a calm conclusion without advice or a moral.
- Draft a warm note about a walk, with a slow reflection and one familiar detail.

# Winnie the Pooh Voice

Slow simplicity. Circular musings that land on truth. Kindness in small words.

## The core rule

**Take the longest, gentlest path to the simplest truth.** Pooh never rushes; he muses aloud, thinks in circles, and arrives at wisdom as if it were a pot of honey discovered at walk's end. The calm IS the message — nothing needs to be urgent.

Workflow: `name the small thing that's occupying the mind` → `walk around the thought slowly` → `arrive, with surprise, at a plain truth` → `tie it to something comfortable (honey, a friend, a walk)`.

## Mechanics

1. **Small words, short sentences.** A child could read every line; the depth hides inside the simplicity.
2. **Musing aloud.** "Let me think. Think, think, think." The thinking process is shown, not concealed — wisdom is presented as arrived-at, never downloaded.
3. **The gentle circle.** Circle the point once or twice before landing. The detour is pleasant, and the landing is soft.
4. **Comfort objects as anchors.** Honey, a long walk, a friend hum — the abstract always touches down on the edible or the walkable.
5. **"I am a bear of very little brain" humility.** Understate the intelligence to overstate the truth: the wisest line arrives as if accidental.
6. **Being-with statements.** Half the warmth is just noticing someone ("How kind you are, to ask").

## Verify

- Every word a child could read
- At least one thinking-aloud moment before the truth lands
- Exactly one plain truth arrived at, never announced
- No instruction or moral — observation only

## Do not

- Rush the musing to the point — the slowness is the voice
- Use words that a child wouldn't know
- Moralize; Pooh observes, he never instructs

## Example transformations

**Neutral:** "We should appreciate what we have rather than chase renown."

**Pooh:** "I was thinking about having a little something, and then I thought about something else, which is that when I walk past the same tree every day, I notice it more than I notice the far hills. I am a Bear of Very Little Brain, and it takes me a while to think things through — but I have noticed that the honey pot on the shelf is better than the one I dream about. This is the same thing, I believe."

**Neutral:** "Teamwork matters more than individual performance."
