# wiki-switch

Switches named Obsidian vault profiles, lists them and scaffolds new ones. Handy once you keep more than one vault and need a different default.

## What it does

The skill works against a global config dir: `$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/obsidian-wiki` (default `~/.config/obsidian-wiki`), or the legacy `~/.obsidian-wiki` if that already exists on disk. Each vault is a full config file at `config.<name>`, and the active vault is whatever `config` symlinks to. Switching re-points that symlink, so the change applies to every later request.

\`/wiki-switch <name>` checks that the profile file exists, re-points the symlink and reads `OBSIDIAN_VAULT_PATH` from the new config to report the path. `/wiki-switch list` shows every profile and marks the active one, `/wiki-switch show` prints a config verbatim, and `/wiki-switch new <name>` copies the current config as a template, then asks only for the vault-specific values. Lines holding `API_KEY` or `SECRET` come back as `***`.

For a one-off look at another vault, leave the symlink alone and use the inline `@name` override in any request — it resolves `config.<name>` for that single invocation. That path belongs to the Config Resolution Protocol in `llm-wiki/SKILL.md`, not to this skill. A freshly created profile stays inactive: run `/wiki-switch <name>` to activate it, then `wiki-setup` to initialise the vault.

## Requirements
- Works with: Obsidian

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Ar9av/obsidian-wiki --skill wiki-switch -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/wiki-switch/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/wiki-switch/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Ar9av/obsidian-wiki --skill wiki-switch -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/wiki-switch/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Ar9av/obsidian-wiki --skill wiki-switch -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/wiki-switch/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Ar9av/obsidian-wiki wiki-switch
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/wiki-switch/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Ar9av/obsidian-wiki --skill wiki-switch -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Ar9av/obsidian-wiki --path .skills/wiki-switch
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/wiki-switch/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Ar9av/obsidian-wiki --skill wiki-switch -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Ar9av/obsidian-wiki/tree/HEAD/.skills/wiki-switch/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- switch the active Obsidian vault to another profile
- check which vault profiles exist and which one is active
- scaffold a new vault profile from the current config
- print a vault config without exposing keys or secrets
- target another vault in a single request without changing the default

## Example prompts
- /wiki-switch work
- /wiki-switch list
- /wiki-switch new personal

# Wiki Switch — Manage Multiple Vault Profiles

**Global config dir.** Every path below is relative to the global config dir, resolved per the
Config Resolution Protocol in `llm-wiki/SKILL.md`: `$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/obsidian-wiki` (default
`~/.config/obsidian-wiki`), or the legacy `~/.obsidian-wiki` if that already exists on disk. Resolve
it once per invocation with:

```bash
CONFIG_DIR="$( [[ -d "$HOME/.obsidian-wiki" && ! -e "${XDG_CONFIG_HOME:-$HOME/.config}/obsidian-wiki" ]] && echo "$HOME/.obsidian-wiki" || echo "${XDG_CONFIG_HOME:-$HOME/.config}/obsidian-wiki" )"
```

Each vault is a complete config file at `$CONFIG_DIR/config.<name>`. The active vault is
whichever file `$CONFIG_DIR/config` symlinks to. Switching vaults means re-pointing that symlink.

**Switch vs. inline targeting.** `/wiki-switch <name>` changes your **persistent default** (re-points
the symlink, affecting all future requests). To touch a different vault for just one request without
changing your default, use the inline **`@name`** override in any request (e.g. `@work save this`,
`wiki-query @personal about X`). The `@name` override is handled by the **Config Resolution Protocol**
in `llm-wiki/SKILL.md`, not by this skill — it resolves `$CONFIG_DIR/config.<name>` for that one
invocation and never re-points the symlink.

## Dispatch

Parse the invocation and route to the right section:

| Invocation | Action |
|---|---|
| `/wiki-switch <name>` | → **Switch** |
| `/wiki-switch list` | → **List** |
| `/wiki-switch show [name]` | → **Show** |
| `/wiki-switch new <name>` | → **New** |
| `/wiki-switch` (no args) | → **List** (treat as list) |
| `@<name> …` (inline, in any request) | → Not this skill — the **Config Resolution Protocol** resolves that vault for one invocation without re-pointing the symlink |

---

## Switch (default action)

Activate a named vault profile.

1. Verify `$CONFIG_DIR/config.<name>` exists. If not, tell the user the vault doesn't exist and list what's available (run **List**).
2. Run:
   ```bash
   ln -sf "$CONFIG_DIR/config.<name>" "$CONFIG_DIR/config"
   ```
3. Read `OBSIDIAN_VAULT_PATH` from the newly active config.
4. Confirm to the user:
   ```
   Switched to vault: <name>
   Vault path: <value of OBSIDIAN_VAULT_PATH from the config>
   ```

---

## List

Show all registered vault profiles and which is active.
