## What it does

The skill activates while you build or edit a WhatsApp integration. It opens with a quick table: base URL `https://graph.facebook.com/v21.0`, the `POST /{phone-number-id}/messages` and `POST /{phone-number-id}/media` endpoints, E.164 phone format, and an 80 messages/second ceiling. Message types follow — text capped at 4096 characters, image, video, audio, document, sticker, location, contacts, reaction, interactive and template.

Separate sections cover webhooks, including the incoming payload shape and the `sent` → `delivered` → `read` | `failed` status chain, the conversation lifecycle, and Coexistence. That last one lets a single number run in the WhatsApp Business App and through the Cloud API at once. It needs an Embedded Signup flow with `featureType: "whatsapp_business_app_onboarding"` rather than standard registration. App-sent messages reach your webhook as `smb_message_echoes`, past history syncs over, and such numbers are capped at 20 msg/sec.

A table of error codes closes the reference, each with a suggested action: 131030, 131047, 131050, 131056, 130429. Nothing works without an access token and a phone number ID, and once the 24-hour window closes only template messages go through. The skill points at `references/MESSAGING.md`, `references/WEBHOOKS.md`, `references/TEMPLATES.md`, `references/CONVERSATIONS.md` and `references/ERROR-CODES.md`, so keep those files nearby.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bellopushon/whatsapp-cloud-api --skill whatsapp-cloud-api -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/whatsapp-cloud-api/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/whatsapp-cloud-api/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bellopushon/whatsapp-cloud-api --skill whatsapp-cloud-api -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/whatsapp-cloud-api/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bellopushon/whatsapp-cloud-api --skill whatsapp-cloud-api -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/whatsapp-cloud-api/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install bellopushon/whatsapp-cloud-api whatsapp-cloud-api
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/whatsapp-cloud-api/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bellopushon/whatsapp-cloud-api --skill whatsapp-cloud-api -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/bellopushon/whatsapp-cloud-api --path skills/whatsapp-cloud-api
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/whatsapp-cloud-api/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bellopushon/whatsapp-cloud-api --skill whatsapp-cloud-api -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/bellopushon/whatsapp-cloud-api/tree/HEAD/skills/whatsapp-cloud-api/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build the request body for a template message
- parse an incoming webhook and pull the sender's `wa_id`
- tell error 131047 apart from 131050 and pick a fix
- run one number in the app and over the API at the same time
- track delivery status through `wamid`

## Example prompts
- Write a WhatsApp webhook handler: accept the POST, return 200, parse the message asynchronously
- Send the `hello_world` template to `+18091234567` through the Cloud API
- Why am I getting error 131047 and how do I get around it?
