## What it does

The skill hands your agent working knowledge of WebGL 2.0 and GPU rendering. It ships templates for shader compilation with error checks, program linking, context loss handling, a resource manager that tracks textures and buffers against a memory cap, and type-safe uniform setting. There's a fragment shader example for a holographic effect with scanlines and edge glow.

The layout is split: a main file plus a `references/` folder with advanced patterns and security examples. The author rates the risk MEDIUM — direct GPU access, resource exhaustion, driver vulnerabilities. So the skill builds in timeouts, limits on draw calls and triangles, and a non-WebGL fallback.

Work follows TDD: tests for shaders and context first, implementation after. One thing to watch — the context is requested with `failIfMajorPerformanceCaveat: true`, so on a machine without hardware acceleration rendering won't start at all. Worth checking your environment before you chase visual bugs.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add martinholovsky/claude-skills-generator --skill webgl -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/webgl/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/webgl/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add martinholovsky/claude-skills-generator --skill webgl -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/webgl/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add martinholovsky/claude-skills-generator --skill webgl -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/webgl/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install martinholovsky/claude-skills-generator webgl
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/webgl/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add martinholovsky/claude-skills-generator --skill webgl -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/martinholovsky/claude-skills-generator --path skills/webgl
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/webgl/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add martinholovsky/claude-skills-generator --skill webgl -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/martinholovsky/claude-skills-generator/tree/HEAD/skills/webgl/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a holographic effect with a fragment shader
- catch shader compile errors before the scene runs
- survive WebGL context loss without crashing the UI
- cap texture and buffer memory usage
- add post-processing like bloom or glitch

## Example prompts
- write a fragment shader for a holographic panel with scanlines
- add WebGL context loss handling to the canvas component
- check that texture memory stays under the limit

# WebGL Development Skill

> **File Organization**: This skill uses split structure. See `references/` for advanced patterns and security examples.

## 1. Overview

This skill provides WebGL expertise for creating custom shaders and visual effects in the JARVIS AI Assistant HUD. It focuses on GPU-accelerated rendering with security considerations.

**Risk Level**: MEDIUM - Direct GPU access, potential for resource exhaustion, driver vulnerabilities

**Primary Use Cases**:
- Custom shaders for holographic effects
- Post-processing effects (bloom, glitch)
- Particle systems with compute shaders
- Real-time data visualization

## 2. Core Responsibilities

### 2.1 Fundamental Principles

1. **TDD First**: Write tests before implementation - test shaders, contexts, and resources
2. **Performance Aware**: Optimize GPU usage - batch draws, reuse buffers, compress textures
3. **GPU Safety**: Implement timeout mechanisms and resource limits
4. **Shader Validation**: Validate all shader inputs before compilation
5. **Context Management**: Handle context loss gracefully
6. **Performance Budgets**: Set strict limits on draw calls and triangles
7. **Fallback Strategy**: Provide non-WebGL fallbacks
8. **Memory Management**: Track and limit texture/buffer usage

## 3. Technology Stack & Versions

### 3.1 Browser Support

| Browser | WebGL 2.0 | Notes |
|---------|-----------|-------|
| Chrome | 56+ | Full support |
| Firefox | 51+ | Full support |
| Safari | 15+ | WebGL 2.0 support |
| Edge | 79+ | Chromium-based |

### 3.2 Security Considerations

```typescript
// Check WebGL support and capabilities
function getWebGLContext(canvas: HTMLCanvasElement): WebGL2RenderingContext | null {
  const gl = canvas.getContext('webgl2', {
    alpha: true,
    antialias: true,
    powerPreference: 'high-performance',
    failIfMajorPerformanceCaveat: true  // Fail if software rendering
  })
  if (!gl) {
    console.warn('WebGL 2.0 not supported')
    return null
  }
  return gl
}
```

## 4. Implementation Patterns

### 4.1 Safe Shader Compilation

```typescript
// utils/shaderUtils.ts
// ✅ Safe shader compilation with error handling
export function compileShader(
  gl: WebGL2RenderingContext,
  source: string,
  type: number
): WebGLShader | null {
  const shader = gl.createShader(type)
  if (!shader) return null
  gl.shaderSource(shader, source)
  gl.compileShader(shader)
  if (!gl.getShaderParameter(shader, gl.COMPILE_STATUS)) {
    const error = gl.getShaderInfoLog(shader)
    console.error('Shader compilation error:', error)
    gl.deleteShader(shader)
    return null
  }
  return shader
}
// ✅ Safe program linking
export function createProgram(
