## What it does

Everything runs through the Webflow MCP server. The skill lists your sites and collections, then pulls the schema of the one you pick: field types, required fields, length limits, reference targets. You can hand over data as JSON, CSV, a bullet list or plain prose, and it gets normalized into the collection's shape.

Validation comes next. Field names have to exist, required fields have to be filled, types have to match, slugs have to be unique, and referenced items have to be there. Then you get a preview: full values for new items, old and new side by side for updates. Approval is granular — all, none, or specific numbers. Writes go out in batches of up to 50 items, and original values are saved first so a rollback stays possible.

A connected Webflow MCP server is mandatory here; without it the skill has nothing to call. It also insists on a `context` parameter of 15–25 words in third person on every tool call, which stands out if you're used to terse calls. Publishing is a separate decision: straight to live, or drafts first.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add webflow/webflow-skills --skill webflow-mcp:bulk-cms-update -a claude-code
```
```bash
npx skills add webflow/webflow-skills --skill bulk-cms-update -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/bulk-cms-update/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/bulk-cms-update/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add webflow/webflow-skills --skill bulk-cms-update -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/bulk-cms-update/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add webflow/webflow-skills --skill bulk-cms-update -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/bulk-cms-update/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install webflow/webflow-skills bulk-cms-update
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/bulk-cms-update/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add webflow/webflow-skills --skill bulk-cms-update -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/webflow/webflow-skills --path plugins/webflow-skills/skills/bulk-cms-update
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/bulk-cms-update/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add webflow/webflow-skills --skill bulk-cms-update -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/webflow/webflow-skills/tree/HEAD/plugins/webflow-skills/skills/bulk-cms-update/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- push a batch of blog posts into a Webflow collection
- change one field across dozens of products
- check items against the collection schema before writing
- review a diff of old and new values before committing

# Bulk CMS Update

Create or update multiple CMS items with comprehensive validation, granular approval, and rollback capability.

## Important Note

**ALWAYS use Webflow MCP tools for all operations:**
- Use Webflow MCP's `data_sites_tool` with action `list_sites` for listing available sites
- Use Webflow MCP's `data_cms_tool` with action `get_collection_list` for listing CMS collections
- Use Webflow MCP's `data_cms_tool` with action `get_collection_details` for fetching collection schemas
- Use Webflow MCP's `data_cms_tool` with action `list_collection_items` for retrieving existing items
- Use Webflow MCP's `data_cms_tool` with action `create_collection_items` for creating items (draft or published)
- Use Webflow MCP's `data_cms_tool` with action `update_collection_items` for updating items (draft or published)
- Use Webflow MCP's `data_cms_tool` with action `publish_collection_items` for publishing draft items
- Use Webflow MCP's `webflow_guide_tool` to get best practices before starting
- DO NOT use any other tools or methods for Webflow operations
- All tool calls must include the required `context` parameter (15-25 words, third-person perspective)

## Instructions

### Phase 1: Site & Collection Selection
1. **Get site**: Identify the target site. If user does not provide site ID, ask for it.
2. **List collections**: Use Webflow MCP's `data_cms_tool` with action `get_collection_list` to show available collections
3. **Ask user to select collection**: User specifies which collection to work with
4. **Fetch collection schema**: Use Webflow MCP's `data_cms_tool` with action `get_collection_details` to retrieve:
   - All field definitions with types
   - Required vs optional fields
   - Field validations (max length, patterns, etc.)
   - Reference field targets

### Phase 2: Data Collection & Parsing
5. **Ask operation type**: Clarify what user wants to do:
   - Create new items only
   - Update existing items only
   - Both create and update
6. **Receive data from user**: Accept data in flexible formats:
   - Structured format (JSON-like)
   - Natural language descriptions
   - CSV-style data
   - Bullet lists
7. **Parse and normalize**: Convert user data into structured format
