# warp-delegate

Sends a bounded coding task to the Warp Agent CLI as a background implementer, then leaves the diff review and the commit to you. Useful when you want to stay the reviewer.

## What it does

The skill lays out a five-step loop. You write the brief: the goal, the current state, what to change, what to leave alone, the project's actual gates, and a report contract. Warp only sees that text plus whatever it can inspect in the workspace, so there is no shared chat history. The brief also tells it not to commit.

Dispatch goes through the bundled `scripts/relay.mjs`. It runs `oz agent run --output-format ndjson`, captures the event stream, and writes `result.json`. The relay blocks until `oz` finishes and never commits. Flags cover the model, an agent profile, a run label, continuing an existing conversation, starting MCP servers, and suppressing the workspace snapshot upload. The watchdog defaults to 30 minutes, and the skill suggests `--timeout 1h` or `2h` for implementation briefs.

Before the first run you need the `oz` CLI installed and authenticated: `oz login`, or `WARP_API_KEY` on a headless host. Node 18+ and git are required too. A working login is not enough on its own — `oz whoami` can succeed while every dispatch fails because the account has no AI quota. In that case check the Warp plan's credits or bring your own provider key. The skill is not meant for tasks small enough to do inline, and it does not drive the interactive `warp` TUI; that is a separate program from `oz`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add amElnagdy/delegate-skills --skill warp-delegate -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/warp-delegate/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/warp-delegate/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add amElnagdy/delegate-skills --skill warp-delegate -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/warp-delegate/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add amElnagdy/delegate-skills --skill warp-delegate -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/warp-delegate/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install amElnagdy/delegate-skills warp-delegate
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/warp-delegate/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add amElnagdy/delegate-skills --skill warp-delegate -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/amElnagdy/delegate-skills --path skills/warp-delegate
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/warp-delegate/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add amElnagdy/delegate-skills --skill warp-delegate -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/amElnagdy/delegate-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/warp-delegate/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- hand a feature implementation to a separate agent and stay on review
- run a queue of coding tasks through Warp, checking each diff
- drive the headless Warp agent from a script and get `result.json`
- continue an existing `oz` conversation with a delta brief
- skip the workspace snapshot upload with `--no-snapshot`

## Example prompts
- Delegate this to Warp: have `oz` implement the endpoint and I'll review the diff
- Run the module refactor through the Warp Agent CLI and show me the result
- Run `scripts/relay.mjs` with `brief.txt` and a `2h` timeout

compatibility: Requires the `oz` CLI (Warp Agent CLI) installed and authenticated (`oz login`, or `WARP_API_KEY` for a headless host; Warp AI features need an eligible Warp plan or your own provider key), Node 18+, and git. The orchestrating agent must be able to run shell commands and read files. Shell examples assume bash/zsh (macOS/Linux, or Git Bash/WSL on Windows).

# Warp Delegate

You are the **orchestrator**. Delegate a bounded coding task to a separate **implementer** - the
Warp Agent CLI - then review what it produced and land it yourself. You write the brief and own the
judgment; the implementer makes changes in its own conversation; you verify and commit.

The loop needs only a shell command and file access, so any comparable orchestrator can drive it.

## The binary is `oz`, not `warp`

Warp ships two different programs, and only one of them can be delegated to:

- **`oz`** - the Warp Agent CLI. Headless and scriptable; `oz agent run` executes an agent against a
  local directory. **This is what the relay drives.**
- **`warp`** - the interactive Warp TUI. It requires a terminal device, has no prompt or print flag
  (its only options are `--resume`, `--auto-approve`, `--api-key`, and the provider-key commands),
  and exits with `Device not configured` when stdin is a pipe. It cannot be relayed.

If `oz` is missing but `warp` is installed, you have the TUI, not the CLI.

## When NOT to use this

- The task is small enough to do inline; delegation overhead is not worth it.
- The `oz` CLI is not installed or authenticated.
