# grant-proposal

Turns research ideas and literature into a structured grant proposal: aims, budget justification, timeline, agency-specific formatting.

## What it does

The skill chains sub-skills into a grant pipeline: a literature survey through `/research-lit`, a gap check through `/novelty-check`, structure design with aims and a matrix, prose drafting, panel review through `/research-review`, then revisions. The result lands in `GRANT_PROPOSAL.md` inside the `grant-proposal/` directory. It is a parallel branch, not part of the linear pipeline: after `/idea-discovery` you either go to `/experiment-bridge` and publish, or write the funding application first and implement once funded.

Supported agencies: KAKENHI (Japan), NSF (US), NSFC (China, including 面上/青年/优青/杰青/海外优青/重点), ERC (EU), DFG (Germany), SNSF (Switzerland), ARC (Australia), NWO (Netherlands) and a generic format. Output language follows the grant type — KAKENHI gives Japanese, NSF and ERC give English, NSFC gives Chinese. Output format is `markdown` or `latex`, with agency templates used for LaTeX.

\`AUTO_PROCEED` is `false` by default, so the skill waits for confirmation at every checkpoint. That fits grant writing, where each stage needs the PI's own judgement. Review runs through Codex MCP with `gpt-6-astra` as the default model, and there are at most two review-revise rounds. The optional `— style-ref: <source>` flag steers the structural layout toward a past successful proposal; it accepts a local TeX directory or file, a local PDF, an arXiv id or an http(s) URL. Overleaf URLs and IDs are rejected — clone the project locally and pass that path instead.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill grant-proposal -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/grant-proposal/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/grant-proposal/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill grant-proposal -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/grant-proposal/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill grant-proposal -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/grant-proposal/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep grant-proposal
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/grant-proposal/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill grant-proposal -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --path skills/grant-proposal
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/grant-proposal/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep --skill grant-proposal -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/wanshuiyin/Auto-claude-code-research-in-sleep/tree/HEAD/skills/grant-proposal/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- draft a grant application from validated research ideas
- check the novelty gap before submitting to a funder
- lay out aims and tasks in a matrix that matches agency rules
- justify the budget and map out the project timeline
- rewrite the proposal after reviewer feedback

## Example prompts
- /grant-proposal "topic — NSF CAREER, latex output"
- /grant-proposal "topic — NSFC Youth, language: English"
- /grant-proposal "topic — KAKENHI — style-ref: ./past-proposal.pdf"
