## What it does

The skill walks the agent through the whole loop: pick a tool (Playwright, Chromatic or Percy), capture baseline screenshots, set an acceptable diff threshold, wire the check into CI, review the changes and update baselines after intentional edits.

For Playwright it hands over a ready `playwright.config.ts`: test directory, snapshot path template, `maxDiffPixels` and `maxDiffPixelRatio` limits, animations disabled. The examples cover a full page, sections like the hero and footer, button and input states, four viewports from mobile to wide, and dark mode. Tests target locators such as `[data-testid="hero-section"]`, so your markup needs those attributes in place first.

You need Node.js, plus `@playwright/test` and the browsers installed. The skill suggests starting at `maxDiffPixels: 100` and `threshold: 0.2`; on a real project you will likely raise those, because fonts and images rarely finish loading at the same moment.

## Requirements
- Works with: Playwright

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill visual-regression-tester -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/visual-regression-tester/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/visual-regression-tester/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill visual-regression-tester -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/visual-regression-tester/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill visual-regression-tester -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/visual-regression-tester/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install patricio0312rev/skills visual-regression-tester
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/visual-regression-tester/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill visual-regression-tester -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/patricio0312rev/skills --path testing/visual-regression-tester
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/visual-regression-tester/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add patricio0312rev/skills --skill visual-regression-tester -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/patricio0312rev/skills/tree/HEAD/testing/visual-regression-tester/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- catch an unintended layout change after a CSS edit
- compare page screenshots before and after a release
- add a UI check to the CI pipeline
- test hover, focus and error states of form controls
- capture the same page on mobile, tablet and desktop

## Example prompts
- set up visual regression testing with Playwright
- add visual tests for the homepage and navigation
- wire visual diffs into CI and update the baselines

# Visual Regression Tester

Catch unintended UI changes with automated visual regression testing.

## Core Workflow

1. **Choose tool**: Playwright, Chromatic, Percy
2. **Setup baseline**: Capture initial screenshots
3. **Configure thresholds**: Define acceptable diff
4. **Integrate CI**: Automated testing
5. **Review changes**: Approve or reject
6. **Update baselines**: Accept intentional changes
