## What it does

This skill queries the Brave Search video endpoint and returns structured video results. Each item includes the page URL, video title, thumbnail, duration, view count, and channel metadata. You can narrow queries with search operators like `site:youtube.com` or exclude terms directly in the query string.

The endpoint supports freshness filtering, adult content filtering through SafeSearch, and pagination. Access requires an active Brave Search API subscription and an API key passed in the `X-Subscription-Token` header. Calls fail without a valid token.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add brave/brave-search-skills --skill videos-search -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/videos-search/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/videos-search/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add brave/brave-search-skills --skill videos-search -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/videos-search/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add brave/brave-search-skills --skill videos-search -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/videos-search/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install brave/brave-search-skills videos-search
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/videos-search/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add brave/brave-search-skills --skill videos-search -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/brave/brave-search-skills --path skills/videos-search
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/videos-search/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add brave/brave-search-skills --skill videos-search -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/brave/brave-search-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/videos-search/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- find relevant video tutorials and reviews by topic
- filter video results by publication timeframe and SafeSearch level
- target specific video platforms using search operators
- extract duration, view counts, and creator names from search results

## Example prompts
- Search for recent Python web development tutorials published this week.
- Find video explainers about transformer models on YouTube.
- Search for database indexing guides and show duration with view counts.
