## What it does

The skill covers video playback: custom controls, seeking, volume, fullscreen, subtitles, quality and speed selection. Streaming gets its own section — HLS and DASH, live video and video on demand.

You get TypeScript and React examples. The plain player is `VideoPlayer.tsx`, built around the `timeupdate`, `loadedmetadata` and `ended` events. Adaptive streaming lives in `HLSPlayer.tsx` and depends on `hls.js`, installed ahead of time with `npm install hls.js`. Error handling for network and media failures is included, with recovery attempts.

There is also a starting point for picture-in-picture via `requestPictureInPicture`. One thing to know: Safari plays HLS natively, so the code checks `Hls.isSupported()` first and falls back to the raw source. If your project is not on React, you will port the examples by hand.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daffy0208/ai-dev-standards --skill video-producer -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/video-producer/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/video-producer/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daffy0208/ai-dev-standards --skill video-producer -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/video-producer/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daffy0208/ai-dev-standards --skill video-producer -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/video-producer/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install daffy0208/ai-dev-standards video-producer
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/video-producer/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daffy0208/ai-dev-standards --skill video-producer -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/daffy0208/ai-dev-standards --path skills/video-producer
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/video-producer/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add daffy0208/ai-dev-standards --skill video-producer -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**

## When to use it
- build a custom video player with seek and volume controls
- add adaptive HLS streaming through hls.js
- wire picture-in-picture into an existing player
- let viewers pick quality and playback speed
- handle network and media errors during playback

## Example prompts
- build a React video player component with custom controls
- set up HLS streaming with hls.js and error recovery
- add a picture-in-picture button to the current player

- Picture-in-picture mode
- Fullscreen support

**Video Features:**

- Subtitles and captions
- Quality selection
- Playback speed control
- Thumbnail previews

**Streaming:**

- Live video streaming
- Video on demand (VOD)
- Progressive download
- Adaptive streaming

## Custom Video Player

```typescript
// components/VideoPlayer.tsx
'use client'
import { useRef, useState, useEffect } from 'react'
interface VideoPlayerProps {
  src: string
  poster?: string
  title?: string
}
export function VideoPlayer({ src, poster, title }: VideoPlayerProps) {
  const videoRef = useRef<HTMLVideoElement>(null)
  const [playing, setPlaying] = useState(false)
  const [currentTime, setCurrentTime] = useState(0)
  const [duration, setDuration] = useState(0)
  const [volume, setVolume] = useState(1)
  const [fullscreen, setFullscreen] = useState(false)
  const [showControls, setShowControls] = useState(true)
  useEffect(() => {
    const video = videoRef.current
    if (!video) return
    const updateTime = () => setCurrentTime(video.currentTime)
    const updateDuration = () => setDuration(video.duration)
    const handleEnded = () => setPlaying(false)
    video.addEventListener('timeupdate', updateTime)
    video.addEventListener('loadedmetadata', updateDuration)
    video.addEventListener('ended', handleEnded)
    return () => {
      video.removeEventListener('timeupdate', updateTime)
      video.removeEventListener('loadedmetadata', updateDuration)
      video.removeEventListener('ended', handleEnded)
    }
  }, [])
  const togglePlay = () => {
    if (!videoRef.current) return
    if (playing) {
      videoRef.current.pause()
    } else {
      videoRef.current.play()
    }
    setPlaying(!playing)
  }
  const handleSeek = (e: React.ChangeEvent<HTMLInputElement>) => {
    const time = parseFloat(e.target.value)
    setCurrentTime(time)
    if (videoRef.current) {
      videoRef.current.currentTime = time
    }
  }
  const handleVolumeChange = (e: React.ChangeEvent<HTMLInputElement>) => {
    const vol = parseFloat(e.target.value)
    setVolume(vol)
    if (videoRef.current) {
      videoRef.current.volume = vol
    }
  }
  const toggleFullscreen = () => {
    if (!videoRef.current) return
    if (!fullscreen) {
      videoRef.current.requestFullscreen()
    } else {
      document.exitFullscreen()
    }
    setFullscreen(!fullscreen)
  }
  const formatTime = (seconds: number) => {
