## What it does

The skill covers scripted editing with FFmpeg: trimming and joining clips, transitions, audio mixing, subtitle handling, color grading and batch processing. Export settings are aimed at YouTube and social platforms. The agent gets `Read`, `Write`, `Edit` plus Bash access to `ffmpeg`, `ffprobe` and `python`.

A good part of it is a list of mistakes to avoid. Cutting at an arbitrary timestamp breaks playback, because codecs place keyframes every few seconds and a `-c copy` cut that ignores them leaves black frames and sync drift. Another section warns against re-encoding at every step: quality drops with each pass, so operations belong in one command. Comparison tables show the trade-off between speed and frame accuracy.

It is not for a real-time editing UI, 3D compositing or motion graphics — the skill points those to DaVinci Resolve, After Effects or Blender. FFmpeg and `ffprobe` have to be installed on your machine, or the agent's commands will not run.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add curiositech/some_claude_skills --skill video-processing-editing -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/video-processing-editing/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/video-processing-editing/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add curiositech/some_claude_skills --skill video-processing-editing -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/video-processing-editing/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add curiositech/some_claude_skills --skill video-processing-editing -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/video-processing-editing/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install curiositech/some_claude_skills video-processing-editing
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/video-processing-editing/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add curiositech/some_claude_skills --skill video-processing-editing -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/curiositech/some_claude_skills --path .claude/skills/video-processing-editing
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/video-processing-editing/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add curiositech/some_claude_skills --skill video-processing-editing -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/curiositech/some_claude_skills/tree/HEAD/.claude/skills/video-processing-editing/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- cut a clip at a frame-accurate point without black frames
- join several clips into one file
- mix a voiceover into the video and level the loudness
- burn subtitles into the picture
- run a folder of clips through one export script

## Example prompts
- trim `input.mp4` from 00:01:23 to 00:02:45 and save it without re-encoding
- concatenate three clips and add a transition between them
- burn `subs.srt` into the video and export a YouTube version

# Video Processing & Editing

Expert in FFmpeg-based video editing, processing automation, and export optimization for modern content creation workflows.

## When to Use

✅ **Use for**:
- Automated video editing pipelines (script-to-video)
- Cutting, trimming, concatenating clips
- Adding transitions, effects, overlays
- Audio mixing and normalization
- Subtitle/caption handling
- Export optimization for platforms
- Batch video processing
- Color grading and correction

❌ **NOT for**:
- Real-time video editing UI (use DaVinci Resolve/Premiere)
- 3D compositing (use After Effects/Blender)
- Motion graphics animation (use After Effects)
- Basic screen recording (use OBS)

---

## Technology Selection

### Video Editing Tools

| Tool | Speed | Features | Use Case |
|------|-------|----------|----------|
| FFmpeg | Very Fast | CLI automation | Production pipelines |
| MoviePy | Medium | Python API | Programmatic editing |
| PyAV | Fast | Low-level control | Custom processing |
| DaVinci Resolve | Slow | Full NLE | Manual editing |

**Decision tree**:
```
Need automation? → FFmpeg
Need Python API? → MoviePy
Need frame-level control? → PyAV
Need manual editing? → DaVinci Resolve
```

---

## Common Anti-Patterns

### Anti-Pattern 1: Not Using Keyframe-Aligned Cuts

**Novice thinking**: "Just cut the video at any timestamp"

**Problem**: Causes artifacts, black frames, and playback issues.

**Wrong approach**:
```bash
