## What it does

The skill guides technical video optimization for Google Search indexing. It produces valid `VideoObject` structured data in JSON-LD, constructs dedicated video XML sitemaps, and prepares clean metadata for search engines.

Search bots discover video media via standard HTML elements such as `<video>`, `<iframe>`, or `<embed>`. If video players get injected via client scripts, the skill ensures the rendered markup exposes the necessary metadata. Requiring user interactions or relying on fragment identifiers hurts crawlability.

URL stability is a hard requirement. If your CDN serves thumbnails or video source files with fast-expiring tokens, search indexing fails completely. In addition, Google does not support data URLs for video assets.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill video-optimization -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/video-optimization/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/video-optimization/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill video-optimization -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/video-optimization/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill video-optimization -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/video-optimization/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install kostja94/marketing-skills video-optimization
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/video-optimization/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

```
### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)
**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/video-optimization/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works
### OpenCode
**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill video-optimization -a opencode
```
### Claude.ai
**Claude.ai**
## When to use it
- generate VideoObject schema in JSON-LD for rich snippets
- build a dedicated video XML sitemap for search crawlers
- verify standard HTML embed tags for proper discovery
- structure video metadata and ensure stable thumbnail URLs
## Example prompts
- Generate VideoObject schema for our tutorial video embed.
- Create a video sitemap entry for the new webinar recording.
- Check the video player embed code and thumbnail settings for Google Search.
# SEO On-Page: Video Optimization
Guides video optimization for Google Search (main results, video mode, Google Images, Discover), video sitemap, VideoObject schema, and indexing. **Note**: Google now prioritizes YouTube video results in search; YouTube + Reddit comprise ~78% of social media citations in AI Overviews. For YouTube-specific optimization, see **youtube-seo**; for GEO distribution via YouTube, see **generative-engine-optimization**. **When invoking**: On **first use**, if helpful, open with 1–2 sentences on what this skill covers and why it matters, then provide the main output. On **subsequent use** or when the user asks to skip, go directly to the main output.
## Scope
- **Discovery & indexing**: HTML embed elements, video sitemap
- **Metadata**: Title, description, thumbnail; stable URLs
- **Structured data**: VideoObject schema
- **Features**: Video preview, key moments (Clip, SeekToAction), LIVE badge
- **YouTube prioritization**: Google favors YouTube in search; embed or host on YouTube for GEO citation
## YouTube in Google Search (2025+)
**Google prioritizes YouTube video results** across search. YouTube receives 48.6B monthly visits (second to Google.com) and is treated as core search infrastructure for AI-driven discovery. [Search Engine Land](https://searchengineland.com/youtube-seo-ai-overviews-467253)
| Context | Implication |
|---------|-------------|
| **AI Overviews** | YouTube citations surged 25.21% since Jan 2025; instructional (+35.6%), visual demos (+32.5%); long-form dominates (94%) |
| **GEO** | YouTube + Reddit = ~78% of social media citations; Perplexity (38.7%) and Google AI Overviews (36.6%) drive most YouTube citations |
| **Strategy** | Embed YouTube on site pages for dual indexing; or host on YouTube for GEO citation. See **youtube-seo**, **generative-engine-optimization** |
## Initial Assessment
**Project context:** Read root `contextus.md` when present and load only the modules relevant to this task. Without Contextus, use available project material or user-provided facts and ask for missing information; do not create a parallel context system.
Identify:
1. **Hosting**: Self-hosted vs YouTube/Vimeo embed
2. **Page type**: Dedicated watch page vs supplementary (e.g. blog with embedded video)
