## What it does

The skill moves from format to a finished script. It first pins down three things: short-form or long-form, the goal (awareness, consideration, conversion, education) and the platform. Then it returns a format recommendation, two or three hook variants, the script itself, CTA placement and notes on platform optimisation.

There is a section on the first three seconds, because 71% of viewers decide there whether to keep watching. Hooks are grouped by type: story-driven, contrarian, question, result-focused. Short-form follows hook, problem, solution, CTA in the final seconds. Long-form runs a hook up to 30 seconds, an intro, a body with clear transitions, a CTA and an outro that repeats the call.

Platform notes are separate. TikTok gets a 2-second hook, Reels 3 seconds and a penalty for TikTok watermarks, Shorts 3–5 seconds with searchable titles. If `contextus.md` sits in the project root, the skill reads it and loads only the modules this task needs; without it, it works from whatever you provide and asks for the rest. On-site video SEO is a different skill — `video-optimization`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill video-marketing -a claude-code
```
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill video -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/video/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/video/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill video -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/video/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill video -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/video/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install kostja94/marketing-skills video
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/video/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill video -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/kostja94/marketing-skills --path skills/content/video
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/video/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add kostja94/marketing-skills --skill video -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/kostja94/marketing-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/content/video/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- pick between short-form and long-form for a given goal
- write a hook that holds viewers through the opening seconds
- build a short-form script as hook, problem, solution, CTA
- adapt one script across TikTok, Reels and Shorts
- lay out timestamps for a long YouTube video

## Example prompts
- help me plan video marketing for a product launch
- write a short-form TikTok script about our new feature
- I need a long-form YouTube script with timestamps

# Content: Video Marketing

Guides video marketing strategy and script creation for short-form and long-form content. Short-form commands ~82% of internet traffic with 2.5× more engagement than long-form; 71% of viewers decide within 3 seconds whether to continue. Use this skill when planning video content, writing scripts, or optimizing for platforms.

**When invoking**: On **first use**, if helpful, open with 1–2 sentences on what this skill covers and why it matters, then provide the main output. On **subsequent use** or when the user asks to skip, go directly to the main output.

## Initial Assessment

**Project context:** Read root `contextus.md` when present and load only the modules relevant to this task. Without Contextus, use available project material or user-provided facts and ask for missing information; do not create a parallel context system.

Identify:
1. **Format**: Short-form (TikTok, Reels, Shorts) vs long-form (YouTube, webinar)
2. **Goal**: Awareness, consideration, conversion, education
3. **Platform**: TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, YouTube long-form

## Short-Form vs Long-Form

| Format | Length | Use | Platforms |
|--------|--------|-----|-----------|
| **Short-form** | 15–60 sec | Hooks, tips, UGC-style; 90% watch daily | TikTok, Reels, Shorts |
| **Long-form** | 3–15+ min | Deep dives; tutorials; Gen Z discovers via short, engages with long | YouTube |

**Optimal short-form length**: 31–60 seconds for higher completion rates.

## Critical First 3 Seconds

71% of viewers decide within 3 seconds whether to continue. Hook types:

| Hook Type | Example |
|-----------|---------|
| **Story-driven** | "Three months ago, I had zero subscribers..." |
| **Contrarian** | "Everyone says X. Here's why they're wrong." |
| **Question** | "Why do 90% of startups fail at this?" |
| **Result-focused** | "I went from 0 to 10K in 30 days. Here's how." |

## Script Structure (Short-Form)

**Hook (0–3 sec)** → **Problem (3–15 sec)** → **Solution (15–45 sec)** → **CTA (final 5 sec)**

Achieves 70%+ completion for algorithmic boost. Frameworks: Hook-Value-CTA, AIDA, PAS, BAB.

## Platform-Specific Hooks

| Platform | Hook Length | Notes |
|----------|-------------|-------|
