## What it does

This skill covers the client side of getting a verified email on Android through the Digital Credentials Verifier API and an OpenID4VP request. The agent starts by locating the relevant flows in your codebase: `signup`, `registration`, `forgot_password` routes, view models such as `SignUpViewModel` and `AuthViewModel`, and reauthentication spots before a password change or account deletion. Then it builds the digital credential request, presents it to the user, and parses the response.

Inside are instructions for the `androidx.credentials:credentials:1.7.0-alpha03` and `credentials-play-services-auth:1.7.0-alpha03` dependencies, creating a `CredentialManager`, parsing raw SD-JWT with a local `SdJwtParser`, and holding the result in a `VerifiedUserInfo` data class. Minimum SDK 28 and Google Play services 25.49.x or higher are required. Server-side validation is out of scope — the skill leaves a TODO, and you have to verify the returned credential in your backend or the whole flow proves nothing.

A couple of limits matter before you start. Google does not issue verifiable credentials for Google Workspace accounts. For addresses outside `@gmail.com`, the email is verified at account creation with no freshness claim, so the skill suggests adding a challenge such as an OTP.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add android/skills --skill verified-email -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/verified-email/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/verified-email/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add android/skills --skill verified-email -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/verified-email/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add android/skills --skill verified-email -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/verified-email/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install android/skills verified-email
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/verified-email/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add android/skills --skill verified-email -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/android/skills --path identity/verified-email
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/verified-email/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add android/skills --skill verified-email -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/android/skills/tree/HEAD/identity/verified-email/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- drop the manual verification code from sign-up
- confirm email ownership during account recovery
- re-check the email before a password change or account deletion
- find the screens and view models where the flow belongs
- parse the SD-JWT response and pull out name and email

## Example prompts
- Add verified email via Credential Manager to the sign-up screen
- Find the account recovery screens in this project and suggest where verified email fits
- Build an OpenID4VP request for a verified email and parse the response

### Requirements

- **SDK Version**: Minimum SDK 28 (Android 9) is required.
- **GMS Version**: Google Play services version 25.49.x or higher.

### Use Cases

Email verification is applicable for the following use cases:

- **Account Creation/Sign-up**: Remove friction by skipping manual email verification.
- **Account Recovery**: Securely verify email ownership during recovery flows.
- **Re-authentication**: Versatile verification for high-risk actions, independent of the initial sign-in method.

### Limitations \& Nuances

- **Workspace Accounts**: Google does not issue verifiable credentials for Google Workspace Accounts.
