## What it does

The skill covers Vercel's managed data services: Postgres for relational tables, Redis for caching and ephemeral state, Vercel Blob for uploads and media, Edge Config for configuration read from Edge Runtime, plus response caching. The agent pulls up the matching section when you are picking where data should live.

Everything sits in one `SKILL.md` with a section per service: provisioning, credentials and connection strings, access from Functions and Edge workloads, usage monitoring. It is marked `user-invocable: false` and `disable-model-invocation: true`, so no slash command shows up — the file loads as reference material instead. Three related skills are mentioned, `vercel-functions-runtime`, `vercel-networking-domains` and `vercel-observability`, and they are optional.

Handy when the app already runs on Vercel and you are weighing a managed database against an external one. Keep in mind the sections stay at overview level: no table schemas, no code samples, so the Vercel docs are where you go for details.

## Requirements
- Works with: PostgreSQL

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill vercel-storage-data -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/vercel-storage-data/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/vercel-storage-data/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill vercel-storage-data -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/vercel-storage-data/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill vercel-storage-data -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/vercel-storage-data/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills vercel-storage-data
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/vercel-storage-data/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill vercel-storage-data -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --path toolchains/platforms/deployment/vercel-storage-data
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/vercel-storage-data/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills --skill vercel-storage-data -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/bobmatnyc/claude-mpm-skills/tree/HEAD/toolchains/platforms/deployment/vercel-storage-data/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- pick between Postgres, Redis and Blob for a given workload
- wire up a connection string to managed Postgres
- add caching for API responses and short-lived state
- store user uploads and media in Vercel Blob
- move configuration into Edge Config for Edge Runtime reads

## Example prompts
- what should I use on Vercel to store user uploads?
- I need response caching for my Vercel API — what do I set up?
- how do I connect to managed Postgres from a Function?

## Overview

Vercel provides managed data services and storage for application state, cache, and files.

## Postgres

- Provision Postgres for relational data.
- Manage credentials and connection strings.

## Redis

- Use Redis for caching and ephemeral state.
- Configure access for Functions and Edge workloads.

## Vercel Blob

- Store and serve files with Vercel Blob.
- Use Blob for uploads, assets, and media storage.

## Edge Config

- Use Edge Config for low-latency configuration and feature data.
- Read from Edge Runtime workloads.

## Data Cache and Storage

- Use data cache features for response caching.
- Review storage options for app data.

## Complementary Skills

When using this skill, consider these related skills (if deployed):

- **vercel-functions-runtime**: Functions and Edge access to data.
- **vercel-networking-domains**: Edge caching and routing.
- **vercel-observability**: Usage and performance monitoring.

*Note: Complementary skills are optional. This skill is fully functional without them.*
