## What it does

The skill starts the emulator with `npx emulate --service google`. Listeners bind to `127.0.0.1` on port 4002 by default. Inside you get the authorization code flow with PKCE, ID tokens, OIDC discovery, refresh tokens, and REST surfaces for Gmail, Calendar and Drive. Point your app at it with `GOOGLE_EMULATOR_URL`; the README ships snippets for `google-auth-library`, Auth.js/NextAuth.js and Passport.js.

Test data comes from a seed config: users, OAuth clients, Gmail labels and messages, calendars with events, Drive files. With no OAuth clients configured, the emulator accepts any `client_id`. Once clients are listed, validation of `client_id`, `client_secret` and `redirect_uri` turns strict — worth checking your config before a test run, or the authorize step will fail.

Auth is permissive by default for local bearer-token work. Setting `google.strict_scopes: true` requires an emulator-issued, unexpired access token on Gmail, Calendar, Drive and userinfo routes. Bad credentials then return `401 UNAUTHENTICATED`, and a missing method scope returns `403 insufficientPermissions`. Strict mode separates read, write, send, settings and metadata scopes, and userinfo returns only granted identity claims. Revoking an access or refresh token invalidates the linked pair.

## Requirements
- Works with: Gmail, Google Drive, Google Workspace

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vercel-labs/emulate --skill google -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/google/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/google/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vercel-labs/emulate --skill google -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/google/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vercel-labs/emulate --skill google -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/google/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install vercel-labs/emulate google
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/google/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vercel-labs/emulate --skill google -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/vercel-labs/emulate --path skills/google
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/google/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add vercel-labs/emulate --skill google -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/vercel-labs/emulate/tree/HEAD/skills/google/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- test Google sign-in without real accounts
- serve OIDC discovery and signing keys locally
- exercise the code-for-token exchange in tests
- work with Gmail messages, drafts and labels offline
- create Calendar events and upload Drive files in a sandbox

## Example prompts
- start the Google emulator on port 4002 and show me how to point NextAuth at it
- add a test user and OAuth client to the seed config for local sign-in
- turn on strict_scopes and check that a Gmail request without a token returns 401

# Google OAuth 2.0 / OIDC + Gmail, Calendar & Drive Emulator

OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect emulation with authorization code flow, PKCE support, ID tokens, OIDC discovery, refresh tokens, plus Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive REST API surfaces.

## Start

Local listeners bind to `127.0.0.1` by default. For access from containers or other machines, pass `--host 0.0.0.0` to the CLI or `hostname: '0.0.0.0'` to `createEmulator`. Configure `--base-url` or `baseUrl` for advertised URLs reachable by those clients.

```bash
# Google only
npx emulate --service google
# Default port
# http://localhost:4002
```

Or programmatically:

```typescript
import { createEmulator } from 'emulate'
const google = await createEmulator({ service: 'google', port: 4002 })
// google.url === 'http://localhost:4002'
```

## Pointing Your App at the Emulator

### Environment Variable

```bash
GOOGLE_EMULATOR_URL=http://localhost:4002
```

### OAuth URL Mapping

| Real Google URL | Emulator URL |
|-----------------|-------------|
| `https://accounts.google.com/o/oauth2/v2/auth` | `$GOOGLE_EMULATOR_URL/o/oauth2/v2/auth` |
| `https://oauth2.googleapis.com/token` | `$GOOGLE_EMULATOR_URL/oauth2/token` |
| `https://www.googleapis.com/oauth2/v2/userinfo` | `$GOOGLE_EMULATOR_URL/oauth2/v2/userinfo` |
| `https://accounts.google.com/.well-known/openid-configuration` | `$GOOGLE_EMULATOR_URL/.well-known/openid-configuration` |
| `https://www.googleapis.com/oauth2/v3/certs` | `$GOOGLE_EMULATOR_URL/oauth2/v3/certs` |
| `https://gmail.googleapis.com/gmail/v1/...` | `$GOOGLE_EMULATOR_URL/gmail/v1/...` |
| `https://www.googleapis.com/calendar/v3/...` | `$GOOGLE_EMULATOR_URL/calendar/v3/...` |
