## What it does

This skill handles the prompt-craft layer for Veo. It teaches you to direct a shot like a filmmaker: subject, action, scene, camera, lighting, mood, audio, timing. One clear motion per clip. It reads `brand-profile.md` first to match the brand's visual style.

Veo's differentiator is native synchronized audio — dialogue with lip-sync, SFX, ambient, music — generated in one pass with the video. The skill tells you to describe audio explicitly: lines in quotes, who speaks, the tone. But it treats generated audio as a draft; for branded work, record a real VO or license music for the final cut.

The image-to-video pipeline is covered: a still frame becomes the first frame, then you describe motion and sound. One generation is about 8 seconds, so the skill pushes a hook in the first second and scene-extension or stitching for longer videos. Iterate on the cheap Fast tier, finalize in 4K — that costs 40–60% more time and money. Every clip carries a SynthID watermark, so passing it off as real footage is not an option.

The skill refuses to generate real identifiable people or copyrighted IP. Pure talking-head explainers get routed to avatar tools like `heygen`. The API connection and upload-to-WoopSocial Media flow live in a separate file, `tools/integrations/veo.md`.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill veo-3 -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/veo-3/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/veo-3/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill veo-3 -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/veo-3/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill veo-3 -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/veo-3/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install social-media-skills/skills veo-3
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/veo-3/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill veo-3 -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/social-media-skills/skills --path skills/veo-3
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/veo-3/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add social-media-skills/skills --skill veo-3 -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/social-media-skills/skills/tree/HEAD/skills/veo-3/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- write a Veo prompt that returns a cinematic clip
- generate vertical 9:16 video for Reels or TikTok
- animate a still frame into video
- describe synchronized audio: dialogue, SFX, ambient
- plan video longer than 8 seconds by stitching clips

## Example prompts
- write a Veo prompt for product b-roll in vertical format
- animate this nano-banana frame, add rain and footsteps on asphalt to the audio
- I need an 8-second hook visual for Reels, brand is in brand-profile

  Use to write great prompts for Google Veo (Veo 3.1) to generate or animate video for social media —
  the video-prompt-craft mini-skill, the video counterpart to nano-banana. Run when the user wants a
  Veo / AI video prompt, a short video clip for a post (b-roll, product-in-motion, hook visual,
  spokesperson/UGC clip, ad), to animate a still image into video, or a vertical Reel/TikTok/Short
  clip. Reads brand-profile for brand style. Veo's standout is native synchronized audio in one
  pass, plus image-to-video and native 9:16 vertical. Teaches the prompt anatomy, audio prompting,
  the image-to-video pipeline, and the 8-second constraint + extension/stitching. Honest: iterate
  cheap then finalize, disclose AI video (SynthID watermark), never generate real identifiable
  people or copyrighted IP. This is the
  prompt-craft layer — the API/connection and the generate -> upload to WoopSocial Media -> attach
  flow live in tools/integrations/veo.md; the consuming pack is reels-script's veo-prompt-pack.

# Veo (video prompt craft)

Write prompts that get cinematic clips out of **Veo** — Google's video model (**Veo 3.1**; Fast/Lite
tiers for cheap iteration). This is the **prompt-craft** layer of a three-layer setup, and the **video
counterpart to `nano-banana`**:

- **Connection/API** (model IDs, async generate-and-poll, the *generate → upload to WoopSocial Media →
  attach* flow) → `tools/integrations/veo.md`.
- **Prompt craft** (this skill) → how to direct the right clip well.
- **In-skill application** → `reels-script`'s veo-prompt-pack.

> Fast-moving area — re-verify model names/specs quarterly.

## Reach for Veo when… (match the job)

Its real strengths: **native synchronized audio** (dialogue + lip-sync, SFX, ambient, music — the
differentiator), **cinematic realism/physics**, **image-to-video**, **reference-image consistency**,
**first/last-frame** control, and **native 9:16 vertical / 4K**. Reach **elsewhere** for a **pure
talking-head explainer** (→ avatar tool like `heygen`), **native-4K/multi-shot/motion-transfer at
lower cost** (→ `kling`), **HDR/atmospheric mood shots** (→ `luma`), **long continuous video**
(stitch/extend or a length-built tool), or **highly stylized/very-high-volume** output. Don't
default it to every job. (Details: `references/when-and-how-to-prompt.md`.)

## Step 0 — Read the brand + the job

Load `brand-profile.md` (visual style, palette, tone). Identify the **job** (b-roll / product motion /
