# value

A placeholder skill that does nothing at all. Handy for checking how an agent picks up a skill file and whether an empty one changes anything.

## What it does

The `SKILL.md` file holds a heading and one line saying the skill performs no actions. The section on when to use it answers with a single word: never. It is a stub, not a working tool.

So why install it? To watch how a platform reads skills and where it drops the file. In Claude Code it lands at `~/.claude/skills/value/SKILL.md`, in Codex at `.agents/skills/value/SKILL.md`, in Cursor at `.cursor/skills/value/SKILL.md`. If the agent behaves exactly as before, an empty skill is not in its way.

There is no reason to keep it in a real project. The only thing worth checking is the install mechanics — that `npx skills add` actually writes the file where you expect.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hugmouse/skills --skill value -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/value/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/value/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hugmouse/skills --skill value -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/value/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hugmouse/skills --skill value -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/value/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install hugmouse/skills value
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/value/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hugmouse/skills --skill value -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/hugmouse/skills --path value
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/value/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add hugmouse/skills --skill value -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/hugmouse/skills/tree/HEAD/value/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- check where a platform stores a skill file
- confirm an empty skill does not break agent behaviour
- practise installing a skill without touching project code
- compare install paths across Claude Code and Cursor

## Example prompts
- List the skills I have installed
- Where does the value skill file live?
- Read `~/.claude/skills/value/SKILL.md` and tell me what is in it
