# valibot

Teaches the agent to work with Valibot: build schemas, parse input, and stop mixing the API up with Zod. Useful when the library is already in your project.

## What it does

The skill gives your agent working knowledge of Valibot, the modular library for validating structural data. Three concepts are covered: schemas, methods, and actions. A schema declares the expected type, a method applies it to data, and an action only runs inside `pipe()`.

A separate section maps Valibot against Zod. Valibot builds checks as a pipeline — `v.pipe(v.string(), v.email(), v.minLength(5))` — instead of chained methods. Parsing reads `v.parse(schema, data)`, optionality is `v.optional(v.string())`, and defaults go in as a second argument. Mix the two APIs and the code will not compile, so the skill lists the mistakes agents make most often.

Migration from Zod gets its own table: `v.picklist` for `z.enum`, `v.variant` for `z.discriminatedUnion`, `v.InferOutput` for `z.infer`. Install the library with `npm install valibot` and import it as `import * as v from "valibot"`. The skill assumes a TypeScript project; without types the checks lose their point.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add open-circle/agent-skills --skill valibot -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/valibot/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/valibot/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add open-circle/agent-skills --skill valibot -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/valibot/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add open-circle/agent-skills --skill valibot -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/valibot/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install open-circle/agent-skills valibot
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/valibot/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add open-circle/agent-skills --skill valibot -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/open-circle/agent-skills --path skills/valibot
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/valibot/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add open-circle/agent-skills --skill valibot -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/open-circle/agent-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/valibot/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build a schema for a signup form and validate the input
- port existing Zod schemas to Valibot
- add a custom rule with `v.check` inside a pipeline
- derive a type from a schema with `v.InferOutput`
- read validation errors through `v.safeParse`

## Example prompts
- Write a Valibot schema for an object with name, email and age
- Convert this Zod schema to Valibot
- Why doesn't `v.string().email()` work in Valibot?

# Valibot

This skill helps you work effectively with [Valibot](https://valibot.dev), the modular and type-safe schema library for validating structural data.

## When to use this skill

- When the user asks about schema validation with Valibot
- When creating or modifying Valibot schemas
- When parsing or validating user input
- When the user mentions Valibot, schema, or validation
- When migrating from Zod to Valibot

## CRITICAL: Valibot vs Zod — Do Not Confuse!

**Valibot and Zod have different APIs. Never mix them up!**
