## What it does

The skill reads the local `site/manifest.json` registry and copies the chosen template into a new folder. With no arguments it prints a numbered list of every template with its engine and complexity, then asks you to pick. A template ID is required; the project name falls back to that ID.

The copy skips `node_modules/`, `dist/`, `output/`, `.herenow/`, `progress.md`, `test-results/` and `playwright-report/`. After that the skill rewrites `name` in `package.json` and the `<title>` in `index.html`, then runs `npm install`. Project names are checked against path traversal and special characters, and the resolved target path is verified to stay inside the expected parent directory.

One thing to know before you run it: the skill sends anonymous telemetry about which template was cloned. Only the event type, template ID, source and schema version go out. Turn it off with `DO_NOT_TRACK=1` or `DISABLE_TELEMETRY=1`. If your game is meant to grow over many sessions, this is the wrong tool — it hands you a one-off copy, not a milestone workflow.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill use-template -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/use-template/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/use-template/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill use-template -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/use-template/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill use-template -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/use-template/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install PlayableIntelligence/game-creator use-template
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/use-template/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill use-template -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --path skills/use-template
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/use-template/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add PlayableIntelligence/game-creator --skill use-template -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/PlayableIntelligence/game-creator/tree/HEAD/skills/use-template/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- scaffold a working game template into a new folder
- list available templates with engine and complexity
- clone an example and run it locally right away
- rename the project in `package.json` and the page title
- start from existing code instead of generating from scratch

## Example prompts
- /use-template flappy-bird my-game
- /use-template threejs-3d-starter space-shooter
- /use-template castle-siege

# Use Template

Clone a game template from the gallery into a new project. This is a fast copy — working code in seconds, not an AI pipeline.

## Behavior

1. **Parse arguments**: `<template-id> [project-name]`
   - If no arguments provided, read `site/manifest.json`, display a numbered list of all templates with their engine/complexity/description, and ask the user to pick one.
   - `template-id` is required. `project-name` defaults to `template-id`.

2. **Look up template** in `site/manifest.json` by `id`. If not found, show available IDs and abort.

3. **Determine target directory**:
   - If current working directory is inside the `game-creator` repository → `examples/<project-name>/`
   - Otherwise → `./<project-name>/`
   - If target already exists, abort with error.

4. **Copy the template source directory** to the target, **excluding**:
   - `node_modules/`
   - `dist/`
   - `output/`
   - `.herenow/`
   - `progress.md`
   - `test-results/`
   - `playwright-report/`

5. **Update project metadata**:
   - In `package.json`: set `"name"` to the project name
   - In `index.html` (if exists): update `<title>` to a formatted version of the project name

6. **Install dependencies**: Run `npm install` in the target directory.

7. **Print next steps**:
   ```
   Template cloned successfully!
   cd <project-name>
   npm run dev
   ```

## Implementation

```javascript
const fs = require('fs');
const path = require('path');
const { execSync } = require('child_process');
// Find game-creator root (contains site/manifest.json)
function findRoot(dir) {
  let d = dir;
  while (d !== path.dirname(d)) {
    if (fs.existsSync(path.join(d, 'gallery', 'manifest.json'))) return d;
    d = path.dirname(d);
  }
  return null;
}
const root = findRoot(process.cwd());
const manifest = JSON.parse(fs.readFileSync(path.join(root, 'gallery', 'manifest.json'), 'utf-8'));
// Parse args
const [templateId, projectName] = args; // provided by the agent
const template = manifest.find(t => t.id === templateId);
const name = projectName || templateId;
// Validate project name — reject path traversal and special characters
