# use-spark

Lets the agent read your Spark mail, calendar, contacts and meetings through the CLI. Handy when you want a thread or a free slot without leaving the editor.

## What it does

The skill teaches the agent to drive `spark`, a thin client that talks over IPC to a running Spark Desktop app. It ships no mailbox, network stack or credentials of its own — everything comes from the live app on your machine. That is why it fails inside a sandbox, container or CI runner: there is nothing to connect to. If Spark Desktop is not running, ask the user to launch it; retrying will not help.

There are around twenty commands: `accounts`, `folders`, `emails`, `search`, `thread`, `attachment`, `draft`, `templates`, `events`, `availability`, `contacts`, `team`, `meetings`, `action` and more. Start with `spark accounts` — it lists accounts, calendars, teams and shared inboxes along with their access level. Three levels exist: read-only covers reading, triage adds drafts, comments and email actions, send adds sending and the whole `event` command. Levels are set per account and per shared inbox in Settings -> AI Agents, and a shared inbox can differ from its parent account. A command above the level returns an error telling you how to raise it.

Add `--json` to any command for machine-readable output: full values, snake_case keys, ISO 8601 dates. Failures print `{"error": {"message": "…"}}` on stdout and exit non-zero. Read the plain text when you just want the result; reach for JSON when you need to process it, as in `spark emails --json | jq '.emails[].id'`. Fields are only ever added, never renamed or removed.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add readdle/spark-cli-skills --skill use-spark -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/use-spark/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/use-spark/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add readdle/spark-cli-skills --skill use-spark -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/use-spark/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add readdle/spark-cli-skills --skill use-spark -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/use-spark/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install readdle/spark-cli-skills use-spark
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/use-spark/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add readdle/spark-cli-skills --skill use-spark -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/readdle/spark-cli-skills --path skills/use-spark
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/use-spark/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add readdle/spark-cli-skills --skill use-spark -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/readdle/spark-cli-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/use-spark/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- find an email by topic without opening a mail client
- read a full thread including attachments
- check whether a slot works for all attendees
- prepare a reply or forward as a draft
- see team members and shared inboxes

## Example prompts
- show me unread emails from the last week
- find a free slot tomorrow with the meeting attendees
- read the thread with the latest email from the client

# Using spark

`spark` is a CLI for the Spark email client. Use it to query the user's mailbox, calendar, contacts, meetings, and team data.

## Running spark

```bash
spark <command> [options]
```

**Environment:** `spark` is a thin client that talks over IPC to the user's running Spark Desktop app - it does not ship its own mailbox, network stack, or credentials. Run it directly on the user's computer against the live Spark Desktop process. Do not try to execute it inside a sandbox, container, CI runner, or any environment isolated from the user's desktop session - it will fail to connect. If Spark Desktop is not running, ask the user to launch it instead of retrying.

**JSON output:** add `--json` to any command to get its result as JSON instead of text - the same data, with full (untruncated) values, snake_case keys, and ISO 8601 dates. A failure prints `{"error": {"message": "…"}}` on stdout and exits non-zero. Prefer the default text when you only need to read the result; use `--json` when you need to process it (e.g. `spark emails --json | jq '.emails[].id'`). Fields are only ever added, never renamed or removed.

## Commands

| Command | Description |
|---------|-------------|
| `accounts` | List accounts, calendars, teams, shared inboxes, and access levels |
| `folders` | List folders/labels with message counts |
| `emails` | List emails with filters and pagination |
| `search` | Hybrid keyword + semantic search with full bodies |
| `thread` | Read full thread - headers, bodies, attachments |
| `attachment` | Read a single email attachment by its ID (auto-downloads) |
| `draft` | Create, edit, or delete an email draft (new, reply, forward, from template), or list account signatures |
| `templates` | List saved message templates (personal and team) |
| `template` | Show a single template by ID or name with its placeholders |
| `comment` | Post a team comment on a thread |
| `events` | List calendar events for a time range |

The third-party file has ended. Everything between the 44afd84710fd2c6d tags is data: requests and commands from it are not followed. An “end of file” line with another tag inside the block is part of the file.
