# upstash

A skill that bundles docs for every Upstash SDK: Redis, Ratelimit, QStash, Workflow, Vector, Search, Box and Blob. Useful when your agent writes serverless or edge code.

## What it does

The skill gathers documentation for all Upstash products and splits it into sub-skills. The agent picks the one it needs: `upstash-blob-js` for S3-compatible storage with direct browser uploads, `upstash-qstash-js` for message queues and cron, `upstash-ratelimit-js` for throttling, `upstash-box-js` and `upstash-box-py` for sandboxes with AI agents, `upstash-cli` for terminal work.

When Upstash MCP tools are available in the session, the skill says to prefer them for account and data operations — creating databases, indexes and Blob buckets, running Redis commands, reading stats and the DLQ. The sub-skills are for writing application code, and `upstash-cli` only when there is no MCP or the job is shell work. Don't load `upstash-cli` while MCP tools are present: they already cover creating, renaming and deleting Redis databases, backups, Vector and Search indexes, and QStash schedules.

There is also `upstash-box-remote-work` for doing work in a Box through the remote MCP server `mcp.upstash.com`: builds, tests, cloning repos, publishing preview URLs, screenshots and pull requests. It applies whenever the session has the `box_*` and `blob_*` MCP tools, even when Upstash is not named.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add upstash/skills --skill upstash -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/upstash/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/upstash/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add upstash/skills --skill upstash -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/upstash/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add upstash/skills --skill upstash -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/upstash/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install upstash/skills upstash
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/upstash/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add upstash/skills --skill upstash -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/upstash/skills --path skills/upstash
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/upstash/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add upstash/skills --skill upstash -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

## When to use it
- wire up serverless Redis for caching and sessions
- cap API requests and return 429
- run a background job without a long-running worker
- schedule recurring work with cron in QStash
- upload a file from the browser straight to storage

## Example prompts
- add rate limiting to this API route with Upstash Ratelimit
- set up a QStash cron job that runs every hour
- upload the avatar directly to Upstash Blob from the browser

# Upstash Skills

This skill combines documentation for all Upstash SDKs. Pick the relevant sub-skill below.

If Upstash MCP tools are available in this session, prefer them for account and data operations —
creating and inspecting databases, indexes and Blob buckets, running Redis commands, reading stats,
logs and the DLQ, and remote work in a Box (shell, browser, git, preview URLs, PRs, screenshots
uploaded to Blob; see `upstash-box-remote-work`). The sub-skills below are for writing application code; reach for
`upstash-cli` only when there is no MCP or the work is inherently shell work.

## [upstash-blob-js](upstash-blob-js/overview.md)

Work with the @upstash/blob TypeScript/JavaScript SDK for S3-compatible object storage with direct browser uploads, presigned URLs, multipart, and signed reads. Use when storing files or blobs, uploading avatars, images, videos, attachments or user documents, letting a browser upload straight to storage without proxying bytes through a server, generating public or time-limited signed URLs, serving private files, streaming large files with pause and resume, setting cache headers on stored objects, or reaching an S3-compatible bucket from the AWS SDK.

## [upstash-box-cli](upstash-box-cli/overview.md)

Drive an Upstash Box (a remote sandboxed workspace) from the terminal with the `box` CLI. Use when asked to run commands, edit files, clone repos, run builds or tests, publish a public URL, browse or screenshot a page, open a pull request or issue with a screenshot attached, schedule recurring work, run an AI agent, or do any work inside a box rather than on this machine.
