# unslop-file

unslop-file rewrites memory files and docs in a less synthetic voice while keeping technical content intact. Use it for CLAUDE.md, task lists, preferences, and READMEs.

## What it does

unslop-file edits prose in files such as `CLAUDE.md`, `AGENTS.md`, todo lists, preferences, and documentation. It removes flattering openers, stock AI wording, hedging, filler transitions, and padded three-part phrasing. Markdown headings, tables, list structure, URLs, paths, commands, and code remain unchanged.

The skill has a regex-based `--deterministic` mode and an LLM mode used by default. The first one needs no API call or `ANTHROPIC_API_KEY`; the second asks Claude to rewrite the prose through the Anthropic SDK or the `claude --print` CLI fallback. A plain `FILE.original.md` copy is written before the original is replaced. Validation checks the preserved regions and leftover AI phrasing, with up to 2 targeted retries in LLM mode.

Run it with `/unslop-file <filepath>` or `/unslop:humanize <filepath>`, or ask the agent to humanize a memory file. The scripts sit beside `SKILL.md` and can be run from that directory with `python3 -m scripts <absolute_filepath>`. Since the processed file overwrites the original, the filepath deserves a quick check before execution.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MohamedAbdallah-14/unslop --skill unslop -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/unslop/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/unslop/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MohamedAbdallah-14/unslop --skill unslop -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/unslop/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MohamedAbdallah-14/unslop --skill unslop -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/unslop/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install MohamedAbdallah-14/unslop unslop
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/unslop/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MohamedAbdallah-14/unslop --skill unslop -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/MohamedAbdallah-14/unslop --path unslop
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/unslop/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add MohamedAbdallah-14/unslop --skill unslop -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/MohamedAbdallah-14/unslop/tree/HEAD/unslop/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- remove AI phrasing from `CLAUDE.md`
- rewrite a README without changing commands or headings
- review regex changes through `audit.json`
- keep a plain backup of the source document

## Example prompts
- Run `/unslop-file CLAUDE.md` and make the prose sound less formulaic.
- Rewrite `docs/guide.md` while preserving its code, links, paths, and headings.
- Process `AGENTS.md` with `--deterministic` and produce an audit report.

# Unslop Humanize

## Purpose

Rewrite natural-language memory files (CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md, todos, preferences, docs) so they sound human-written: no sycophancy, no stock vocab, no five-paragraph essay shape, no tricolon padding. Everything technical stays exact: code blocks, inline code, URLs, file paths, commands, headings, tables.

Two modes:

- **`--deterministic`** — fast regex pass that strips canonical AI-isms and tightens tricolons. No API call, no `ANTHROPIC_API_KEY` needed. Best for batch processing and CI.
- **LLM mode (default)** — calls Claude (via Anthropic SDK or `claude --print` CLI fallback) to do a full rewrite that engineers burstiness, restructures performative paragraphs, and matches voice. Slower but better quality.

Humanized version overwrites the original. A `FILE.original.md` backup is written first. Re-run after editing the `.original.md` to regenerate.

### Intensity levels (`--mode`)

| Mode       | What runs                                                                                   | Use when…                                                    |
| ---------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------ |
| `subtle` | Stock vocab only. | Structure is fine; you just want AI vocabulary gone. |
| `balanced` | (Default.) Sycophancy, hedging, transitions, stock vocab, authority tropes, signposting, performative balance, em-dash cap. | Everyday docs / READMEs / CLAUDE.md. |
| `full`     | Balanced + filler phrases + negative-parallelism tricolons + stronger LLM prompt.           | Marketing copy, release notes, slop-heavy LLM output.        |

### Two-pass audit

Use the deterministic pass to get a report, then fix anything that slipped:

```bash
humanize --deterministic --report audit.json doc.md     # writes audit + humanized
humanize doc.md                                         # optional LLM polish on top
```

`audit.json` lists every rule that fired, every `before → after` pair, and `counts_by_rule`. Great for reviewing what the regex changed before trusting the diff to merge.
