## What it does

This skill adds local Markdown documentation files covering the UIKit framework into the agent context. It includes references for `UIView`, `UIViewController`, controls, navigation controllers, and Auto Layout constraints. Because `uikit-overview.md` is a massive index file, the agent searches it with `rg` rather than reading the entire text.

When a query misses the local docs, the skill searches other installed Apple skills on the machine. If the documentation is still missing, it falls back to the `sosumi.ai` Markdown mirror using the framework doc path. Some connected APIs like `UIHostingController` live across framework boundaries, so SwiftUI docs might be needed as well.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Prisma-Labs-Dev/apple-skills --skill uikit -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/uikit/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/uikit/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Prisma-Labs-Dev/apple-skills --skill uikit -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/uikit/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Prisma-Labs-Dev/apple-skills --skill uikit -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/uikit/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install Prisma-Labs-Dev/apple-skills uikit
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/uikit/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Prisma-Labs-Dev/apple-skills --skill uikit -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/Prisma-Labs-Dev/apple-skills --path skills/uikit
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/uikit/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add Prisma-Labs-Dev/apple-skills --skill uikit -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/Prisma-Labs-Dev/apple-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/uikit/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- inspect UIView and UIViewController lifecycle methods locally
- configure Auto Layout constraints using NSLayoutConstraint syntax
- integrate SwiftUI views into UIKit hierarchies using UIHostingController
- look up table and collection view delegate APIs without internet access

## Example prompts
- Show the configuration options for UICollectionView from the UIKit reference
- Check how to present a UIAlertController with destructive actions in UIKit
- Find the syntax for embedding a SwiftUI view into UIHostingController

# UIKit Reference

UIKit framework documentation for iOS and iPadOS apps.

## Downloaded Reference Files

Search the local files first. `uikit-overview.md` is the full framework index and is large, so prefer `rg` over opening it directly.

## Fetching More Docs

1. Search this skill's local `.md` files first.
2. If the topic is not here, check the other installed Apple skills you have available by their names, descriptions, or `SKILL.md` frontmatter, then grep their local files. This is faster and uses less context than fetching new docs from the internet.
3. If no installed skill has the page, use the relevant documentation path from `uikit-overview.md` with the `sosumi.ai` Markdown mirror. For example, `/documentation/uikit/uiview` maps to `https://sosumi.ai/documentation/uikit/uiview`.

Some UIKit-adjacent APIs live in other frameworks. For example, `UIHostingController` is documented under SwiftUI.
