## What it does

The skill provides a pre-flight checklist for generated UI components. It enforces visibility rules, a 4.5:1 text contrast standard, 44px minimum touch targets, and responsive layouts down to 320px without horizontal scrolling. It also includes verified Tailwind CSS color pairings for light and dark modes.

Because the frontmatter defines `user-invocable: false`, you do not trigger this skill via a slash command. Instead, the agent pulls it in when editing files matching `**/*.test.tsx`, `**/*.spec.tsx`, or `**/*.stories.*`.

The instructions contain ready-to-use snippets for common fixes, such as replacing removed outlines with `focus-visible:ring-2`. It also covers optional tooling setups using `eslint-plugin-jsx-a11y` and `@axe-core/playwright`.

## Requirements
- Works with: Playwright

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill ui-testing -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/ui-testing/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/ui-testing/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill ui-testing -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/ui-testing/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill ui-testing -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/ui-testing/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install alinaqi/maggy ui-testing
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/ui-testing/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill ui-testing -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/alinaqi/maggy --path skills/ui-testing
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/ui-testing/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add alinaqi/maggy --skill ui-testing -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/alinaqi/maggy/tree/HEAD/skills/ui-testing/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- verify text-to-background contrast ratios against the 4.5:1 standard
- fix click targets that are smaller than 44px
- add visible focus rings for keyboard navigation
- audit button borders and text visibility in dark mode

## Example prompts
- Check Button.stories.tsx against the accessibility checklist
- Write an accessibility test in navigation.spec.tsx using axe-core
- Fix the Tailwind button styles in Card.test.tsx so borders remain visible

---

## Quick Contrast Check

### Use Browser DevTools
```
1. Right-click element → Inspect
2. In Styles panel, click on color value
3. Look for contrast ratio display
4. Must show ✓ for AA compliance (4.5:1 for text)
```

### Online Tools

### Tailwind Safe Combinations

```
LIGHT MODE (on white bg):
✓ text-gray-900  (#111827) = 16:1
✓ text-gray-800  (#1F2937) = 12:1
✓ text-gray-700  (#374151) = 9:1
✓ text-gray-600  (#4B5563) = 6:1
✗ text-gray-500  (#6B7280) = 4.6:1 (barely)
✗ text-gray-400  (#9CA3AF) = 2.6:1 (FAILS)
DARK MODE (on gray-900 bg):
✓ text-white     (#FFFFFF) = 16:1
✓ text-gray-100  (#F3F4F6) = 13:1
✓ text-gray-200  (#E5E7EB) = 11:1
✓ text-gray-300  (#D1D5DB) = 8:1
✗ text-gray-400  (#9CA3AF) = 5:1 (barely)
✗ text-gray-500  (#6B7280) = 3:1 (FAILS)
```

## Common Fixes

### Invisible Button
```tsx
// PROBLEM: No visible boundary
<button className="text-gray-500">Click</button>
// FIX: Add background OR border
<button className="bg-gray-100 text-gray-900 px-4 py-3 rounded-lg">
  Click
</button>
// OR
<button className="border border-gray-300 text-gray-700 px-4 py-3 rounded-lg">
  Click
</button>
```

### Low Contrast Text
```tsx
// PROBLEM: Light gray on white
<p className="text-gray-400">Secondary text</p>
// FIX: Use darker gray
<p className="text-gray-600">Secondary text</p>
```

### Missing Focus State
```tsx
// PROBLEM: Focus removed without replacement
<button className="outline-none">Submit</button>
// FIX: Add visible focus ring
<button className="outline-none focus-visible:ring-2 focus-visible:ring-blue-500 focus-visible:ring-offset-2">
  Submit
</button>
