## What it does

The skill scans project files and drafts the document: `*.uproject` supplies `EngineAssociation`, the module list and enabled plugins; `*.Build.cs` and `*.Target.cs` give dependencies and build target types; `Config/Default*.ini` covers maps, Enhanced Input and gameplay tags; `*.uplugin` files name in-house plugins. No engine API is called — it reads files only. Target engine is UE 5.8.

Scan first, interview second. Anything the files cannot prove is marked `[unknown]` in the draft, so team size or a networking model never gets invented. A Blueprint-only or empty project falls back to a questionnaire. Worth knowing: without this file the other UE skills keep giving generic advice, so refresh it after an engine upgrade or a plugin change.

Plugin handling has its own rules. The skill cross-checks `Plugins[]` in the `.uproject` and records the `.uplugin` name rather than the display name. A project plugin under `Plugins/` that is missing from `Plugins[]` is still enabled unless its `.uplugin` sets `"EnabledByDefault": false`; for engine plugins the rule runs the other way.

## Requirements
- Works with: Unreal Engine

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills --skill ue-project-context -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/ue-project-context/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/ue-project-context/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills --skill ue-project-context -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/ue-project-context/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills --skill ue-project-context -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/ue-project-context/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills ue-project-context
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/ue-project-context/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills --skill ue-project-context -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills --path skills/ue-project-context
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/ue-project-context/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills --skill ue-project-context -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/ue-project-context/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- build project context for a UE coding agent
- find the engine version and enabled plugins
- refresh the project document after module changes
- work out which plugins are on by default
- stop getting generic Unreal advice

## Example prompts
- scan my UE project and set up the context
- update `.agents/ue-project-context.md`
- what engine version is this project on and which plugins are enabled

# UE Project Context

Target engine: **UE 5.8**. APIs below are verified against the 5.8 headers; older forms are listed under "Deprecated — do not use".

This skill produces and maintains `.agents/ue-project-context.md` — the single file the other UE skills read to learn the project's engine version, module layout, enabled plugins, coding conventions, gameplay framework classes, networking model and build targets. It reads project files only (`.uproject`, `*.Build.cs`, `*.Target.cs`, `Config/Default*.ini`, `Plugins/*/*.uplugin`); it calls no engine API. This is the one skill in this set that is deliberately a conversation: every line it writes must come from the codebase or from the user, never from a guess.

## Context

Read `.agents/ue-project-context.md` if it exists (module names, conventions, enabled plugins, GAS/networking setup). Do not stop if it is missing — this skill is what creates it.

The default path is **scan first, then interview**. Build a draft from the codebase before asking anything, then let the user correct it. Do not open with a menu of options.
