## What it does

This skill provides C++ patterns verified against Unreal Engine 5.8 headers. It covers `UWorld` queries like `LineTraceSingleByChannel` and `SweepSingleByChannel`. Most gameplay code only requires `Engine` and `PhysicsCore` in `Build.cs`.

Custom channels have no runtime creation API. They must be defined in `Config/DefaultEngine.ini` beforehand. The skill also enforces call order: calling `SetCollisionProfileName` resets manual channel overrides, so response modifications must follow profile assignment.

## Requirements
- Works with: Unreal Engine

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills --skill ue-physics-collision -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/ue-physics-collision/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/ue-physics-collision/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills --skill ue-physics-collision -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/ue-physics-collision/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills --skill ue-physics-collision -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/ue-physics-collision/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills ue-physics-collision
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/ue-physics-collision/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills --skill ue-physics-collision -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills --path skills/ue-physics-collision
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/ue-physics-collision/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills --skill ue-physics-collision -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/ue-physics-collision/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- run line trace and sweep queries in Unreal Engine 5.8
- configure custom collision channels in DefaultEngine.ini
- wire OnComponentHit and OnComponentBeginOverlap delegate events
- inspect query hit properties through FHitResult

## Example prompts
- Write a SweepSingleByChannel query to detect obstacles in front of the actor in UE 5.8.
- Why is my OnComponentBeginOverlap event not firing on this mesh?
- Show how to define a custom weapon trace channel in DefaultEngine.ini.

# UE Physics & Collision

Target engine: **UE 5.8**. APIs below are verified against the 5.8 headers; older forms are listed under "Deprecated — do not use".

Collision and physics live in the `Engine` module (`UPrimitiveComponent`, `UWorld` queries, `FHitResult`, `UCollisionProfile`) and the `PhysicsCore` module (`FCollisionShape`, `UPhysicalMaterial`, `FBodyInstanceCore`, `ECollisionTraceFlag`, `EPhysicalSurface`). The simulator itself is Chaos (`Chaos` / `ChaosSolverEngine` modules); destruction adds `GeometryCollectionEngine` and `FieldSystemEngine`. Most gameplay code only needs `"Engine"` and `"PhysicsCore"` in `Build.cs`.

## Context

Read `.agents/ue-project-context.md` if it exists (module names, conventions, enabled plugins, GAS/networking setup). Do not stop if it is missing.

Identify the area from the request and the codebase. Ask only when two plausible readings would produce different code.

## Collision Channels and Profiles

`ECollisionChannel` (`Engine/EngineTypes.h:1098`) has 8 engine channels, 6 hidden engine slots and 50 game slots (64 total; `ECC_GameTraceChannel50` at `:1168`):
