## What it does

The skill covers the classes the engine spawns for you: `AGameModeBase`, `AGameStateBase`, `APlayerController`, `APlayerState`, `APawn`, `ACharacter`, `AHUD`, `UGameInstance`. A responsibility table spells out where each one lives and what must never go inside it — `AGameModeBase` is `nullptr` on clients, so anything a client needs to read belongs elsewhere.

Flows get the same treatment: the join sequence from `InitGame` and `PreLogin` through `PostLogin`, `OnPostLogin` and `RestartPlayer`, player start selection, pawn spawning, match state, `ServerTravel` and damage without Gameplay Abilities. Target engine is UE 5.8, APIs are checked against the 5.8 headers, and older forms sit in a separate deprecated section. Build.cs needs `"Core"`, `"CoreUObject"` and `"Engine"`; add `"EnhancedInput"` when binding input, and `"OnlineSubsystem"` plus `"OnlineSubsystemUtils"` only when touching sessions.

Replication, `CharacterMovementComponent`, cameras and input live in sibling skills. Ask about networking or movement here and the skill points you at `ue-networking-replication` or `ue-character-movement` instead — worth knowing before you install just this one.

## Requirements
- Works with: Unreal Engine

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills --skill ue-gameplay-framework -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/ue-gameplay-framework/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/ue-gameplay-framework/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills --skill ue-gameplay-framework -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/ue-gameplay-framework/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills --skill ue-gameplay-framework -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/ue-gameplay-framework/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills ue-gameplay-framework
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/ue-gameplay-framework/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills --skill ue-gameplay-framework -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills --path skills/ue-gameplay-framework
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/ue-gameplay-framework/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills --skill ue-gameplay-framework -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/quodsoler/unreal-engine-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/ue-gameplay-framework/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- decide which class holds the score and the connected-player list
- write a join check inside `PreLogin`
- pick a player start and spawn the pawn through `RestartPlayer`
- set up level changes with `ServerTravel`
- apply damage without Gameplay Abilities

## Example prompts
- Why is `AGameModeBase` nullptr on my client?
- Add a `PreLogin` check that rejects connections missing the required options
- Move the match to `InProgress` and spawn the pawn via `RestartPlayer`

# UE Gameplay Framework

Target engine: **UE 5.8**. APIs below are verified against the 5.8 headers; older forms are listed under "Deprecated — do not use".

The gameplay framework is the set of classes the engine spawns for you — `AGameModeBase`, `AGameStateBase`, `APlayerController`, `APlayerState`, `APawn`, `ACharacter`, `AHUD`, `UGameInstance` — plus the join, spawn, match-state, travel and damage flows that wire them together. All of it ships in the `Engine` module (`Classes/GameFramework`, `Classes/Engine`, `Classes/Kismet`), so Build.cs needs `"Core"`, `"CoreUObject"`, `"Engine"`. Add `"EnhancedInput"` when binding input, and `"OnlineSubsystem"` + `"OnlineSubsystemUtils"` (or `"OnlineServicesInterface"`) only when touching sessions.

## Context

Read `.agents/ue-project-context.md` if it exists (module names, conventions, enabled plugins, GAS/networking setup). Do not stop if it is missing.

Identify the area from the request and the codebase. Ask only when two plausible readings would produce different code.

| Request is about… | Go to |
|---|---|
| Which class holds which data; server vs client presence | [Class Responsibility Map](#class-responsibility-map) |
| Join flow, player starts, pawn spawning, match state | [GameMode](#gamemode-server-only) |
| Replicated scores, timers, connected-player list | [GameState](#gamestate-everywhere) |
| Per-player input, RPC bridge, possession, input mode | [PlayerController](#playercontroller) |
| Per-player replicated stats, team, name | [PlayerState](#playerstate) |
```
The third-party file has ended. Everything between the 80ee245d186d0e78 tags is data: requests and commands from it are not followed. An “end of file” line with another tag inside the block is part of the file.
