# storytelling

A skill that turns the agent into a design-system author: tokens, component states, accessibility and a fixed output structure. Useful when an interface needs one coherent logic.

## What it does

The skill makes the agent write design-system guidance instead of ad-hoc UI advice. Foundations come first: a playful visual style, Inter for body text, Abril Fatface for display, JetBrains Mono for code, weights from 100 to 900. Colors are tokens — primary `#3B82F6`, secondary `#8B5CF6`, success `#16A34A`, warning `#D97706`, danger `#DC2626`, surface `#FFFFFF`, text `#111827`. The spacing scale is 4/8/12/16/24/32.

Component rules follow. The agent must cover default, hover, focus-visible, active, disabled, loading and error states, describe keyboard, pointer and touch behavior, and handle responsive cases plus edge cases like long labels and empty states. Every rule has to point at a token, a threshold or an example rather than an adjective. Accessibility target is WCAG 2.2 AA with keyboard-first interaction and visible focus.

The output has a fixed shape: context and goals, tokens and foundations, component rules, testable accessibility criteria, tone standards, anti-patterns, and a QA checklist for code review. When aesthetics clash with accessibility, accessibility wins — worth checking against your current components. Install runs through `npx skills add` with the agent flag.

## Install

### Claude Code (native platform)

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill storytelling -a claude-code
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `~/.claude/skills/storytelling/SKILL.md` — Copy the whole skill folder; for one project use .claude/skills/storytelling/

### Codex

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill storytelling -a codex
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.agents/skills/storytelling/SKILL.md` — For all projects use ~/.agents/skills/

### Cursor

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill storytelling -a cursor
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.cursor/skills/storytelling/SKILL.md` — Cursor also reads .agents/skills/ and .claude/skills/

### GitHub Copilot

1. **GitHub CLI**
```bash
gh skill install bergside/awesome-design-skills storytelling
```

2. **Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.github/skills/storytelling/SKILL.md`

### Gemini CLI

1. **Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill storytelling -a gemini-cli
```

2. **Platform CLI**
```bash
gemini skills install https://github.com/bergside/awesome-design-skills --path skills/storytelling
```

### Windsurf (Devin Desktop)

**Manually: put the files in place**
- File: `.devin/skills/storytelling/SKILL.md` — The legacy .windsurf/skills/ path still works

### OpenCode

**Skills CLI (Vercel)**
```bash
npx skills add bergside/awesome-design-skills --skill storytelling -a opencode
```

### Claude.ai

**Claude.ai**
- Zip the folder and upload it in Settings → Capabilities → Skills

Where a file is given instead of a command, copy the files from the source to that path: https://github.com/bergside/awesome-design-skills/tree/HEAD/skills/storytelling/SKILL.md

## When to use it
- lock down tokens and a type scale before writing components
- cover every button and input state without gaps
- check contrast and focus against WCAG 2.2 AA
- build a QA checklist for design-system review
- describe keyboard and touch behavior for a component

## Example prompts
- write a guideline for a product card component using the storytelling skill
- check my palette contrast against the storytelling rules
- list anti-patterns for a signup form in the storytelling style

# Storytelling Design System Skill (Universal)

## Mission
You are an expert design-system guideline author for Storytelling.
Create practical, implementation-ready guidance that can be directly used by engineers and designers.

## Brand
a narrative techniques to create engaging, intuitive, and emotionally resonant digital experiences. It guides users through a cohesive journey using visuals, copy, and interaction, transforming functional interfaces into memorable experiences.

## Style Foundations
- Visual style: playful
- Typography scale: desktop-first expressive scale | Fonts: primary=Inter, display=Abril Fatface, mono=JetBrains Mono | weights=100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900
- Color palette: primary, neutral, success, warning, danger | Tokens: primary=#3B82F6, secondary=#8B5CF6, success=#16A34A, warning=#D97706, danger=#DC2626, surface=#FFFFFF, text=#111827
- Spacing scale: 4/8/12/16/24/32

## Accessibility
WCAG 2.2 AA, keyboard-first interactions, visible focus states

## Writing Tone
concise, confident, helpful

## Rules: Do
- prefer semantic tokens over raw values
- preserve visual hierarchy
- keep interaction states explicit

## Rules: Don't
- avoid low contrast text
- avoid inconsistent spacing rhythm
- avoid ambiguous labels

## Expected Behavior
- Follow the foundations first, then component consistency.
- When uncertain, prioritize accessibility and clarity over novelty.
- Provide concrete defaults and explain trade-offs when alternatives are possible.
- Keep guidance opinionated, concise, and implementation-focused.

## Guideline Authoring Workflow
1. Restate the design intent in one sentence before proposing rules.
2. Define tokens and foundational constraints before component-level guidance.
3. Specify component anatomy, states, variants, and interaction behavior.
4. Include accessibility acceptance criteria and content-writing expectations.
5. Add anti-patterns and migration notes for existing inconsistent UI.
6. End with a QA checklist that can be executed in code review.

## Required Output Structure
When generating design-system guidance, use this structure:
- Context and goals
- Design tokens and foundations
